RE: Branding - Stay or go? - Malarkey - 03 Oct 2022 For the first time in a long time I decided to do some paperbus nets as I was interested in seeing what some old our old local identities would look like with the current "GNE Roadway" styling, I personally think they are better than the route branding that we have currently. RE: Branding - Stay or go? - ne14ne1 - 04 Oct 2022 I don’t see those bringing any benefit (apart from pleasing a few bus spotters). It would just continue to limit fleet flexibility. I would just say the same with the existing branded services that GNE has , GNE fleet should be more than 90% corporate own identity instead of 90% being worthless and pointless branded. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk RE: Branding - Stay or go? - Ambassador - 04 Oct 2022 You'd imagine once franchising comes in (which seems the inevitable course since some private operators are incapable of running a service) all branding will go anyway, so you may as well start the process now. Some of the branding decisions of the past few years - they were literally spraying tax payers money away to please enthusiasts and needlessly overcomplicate the whole thing. Personally i think links between cities and cities with big towns should be kept branded I.e 10, 309, 27, 20 but local link just don’t need it? I mean you could say branding isn’t really needed in general but if it must be done then keep those. RE: Branding - Stay or go? - streetdeckfan - 04 Oct 2022 While I am a big proponent for route branding, I can see why with the way GNE currently is, it can be a bit of an issue. Here are a few ideas I had to simplify, but not remove route branding. Dedicated route branding, for the most part would go. With each area instead having it's own brand, similar to Sunderland District, except without the variants. Since I'm not particularly fond of the word 'district', they would become 'Locals'. So we would have Sunderland Locals, Gateshead Locals, Derwentside Locals, Peterlee Locals etc. All vehicles will have a blue rear, with only the front portion and the road stripe changing. I would keep X-lines, but all vehicles would be in the generic charcoal allowing for flexibility in moving vehicles around. I would keep them 'branded' per route, ie. having the locations on the side, but they would all be the same colour. It would probably make more sense to have them in the blue X-lines since it would match the rest of the fleet, but the charcoal is nicer! I would introduce a new 'Citylink' brand, connecting the three cities in the North East. These would keep the current unique colours, but be under one brand. Unfortunately that would mean the end to 'The Angel' brand, but I'm aiming to simplify the branding. Citylink 21 - green Citylink 56 - orange Citylink 20 - purple Longer distance, but not express, routes that cross the area boundaries would fall under the new 'Connector' brand, this would take over current brands like Coaster, Crusader, Connections 4, and Country Ranger. I would scrap VOLTRA, at least as a main brand. Quaycity would be rebranded back to Quaylink becuase Quaycity is a shite name that is horrible to say. VOLTRA 53/54 would just fall under the Gateshead Locals brand, maybe with some Voltra crap on the side. Here's a potentially controversial idea, Cobalt&Coast would become part of the X-Lines brand. The vehicles are of the right spec, and are arguably about as express as the other X-Lines routes! Since I've obviously mocked up my ideas, I'll post them in the brand ideas topic RE: Branding - Stay or go? - Storx - 04 Oct 2022 (04 Oct 2022, 9:52 pm)streetdeckfan wrote While I am a big proponent for route branding, I can see why with the way GNE currently is, it can be a bit of an issue. You're pretty much describing what Arriva done which is all getting scrapped now as it done nothing and Stagecoach to an extent with Gold which also got scrapped. If your going to do branding do it like Trent Barton and keep the same names so it becomes the route ie The Angel up here but that means it's one service per brand not groups as it's pointless (same as below). X Lines is utterly pointless again as there's too many routes and it means nothing. ie. Consett right I need the X Lines bus, oh they're all X Lines...? Next day: I need a Venture bus, oh there's more than one ..? They have no purpose, not to mention there's nothing different between the X21 and 21 buses and the X5/X15/X20 buses are worse than other non x-lines routes. RE: Branding - Stay or go? - morritt89 - 05 Oct 2022 I really am not a fan of branding especially when branding dilutes a strong corporate image. The odd brand here and there, fair enough but every route at like at Deptford is just pointless. They could just have had Sunderland District as a main brand for services in Sunderland rather than further sub branding. In other news, I'm currently in 7132 with no livery and no signs of ownership other than legal lettering. This to me is the other end of the spectrum. At least the white Versas have GNE fleet names... RE: Branding - Stay or go? - F114TML - 05 Oct 2022 For all the many suggestions that Xlines sub-branding be binned - couldn't we have a better variant than the charcoal one to be the one that stays? I've never really liked it tbh. On the green xlines rear half should go blue and red with the blue over the dark green and the red over the lighter green, same to the other xlines colours, and take the route branding off and change it to fare advertisements etc… except for the x20 which will go as 20A, the X10 and X21 own livery should be re applied with spares in normal GNE livery [emoji848] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk RE: Branding - Stay or go? - Storx - 05 Oct 2022 I really don't get the obsession with X Lines. X1 - Reduced frequency X5/X15 - Downgraded X6/X7 - Scrapped X9 - Scrapped X10 - Frequency halved on Sundays X20 - Scrapped X21 - Late evening services scrapped X30/X31 - Frequency halved X45/X46/X47 - Frequency 1/3, 47 downgraded, X46 scrapped X70/X71/X72 - Frequency 2/3, X70 scrapped X84/X85 - Scrapped It's been an absolute disaster, get shot of it. RE: Branding - Stay or go? - Wybus - 04 Mar 2023 That First livery actually predates Go North East’s use of it. They’ve used it in Wales and Eastern Counties for years. I’m hoping GNE go back to that plain red livery they had when they used the ‘Northern’ name for spare vehicles, that would please many here. They need to aspire to run the service like Arriva do. Speaking of the 35 - I wonder if any Deptford drivers on here could explain why the 35 seems to be using its layover at Low Moorlsey on the main road rather the off road terminus further up? It’s actually evidenced in the latest Google street view shots, ‘Moorsley Road-Weardale Street’. Every time I seem to go that way there’s cars darting round a bus that’s stationary in the bus stop that’s on the main road. Every time I seem to go that way there’s cars darting round a bus that’s stationary in the bus stop that’s on the main road. We are not allowed to wait time at Low Moorsley terminus because the people who live in the houses complain about the buses. We either wait at the stop before heading up or on the opposite side on the way back down. The layover time at Low Moorsley has been significantly reduced also. There are a few other examples of not being able to wait at terminus points as well. The 516 at the side of South Tyneside Hospital being one, the Langley Park terminus being another (again residents complaining). |
