RE: Stagecoach North East Latest News - MurdnunoC - 10 Nov 2023 (10 Nov 2023, 3:56 am)omnicity4659 wrote Yes, because the road is closed. He's on about the low bridge at the end of Wellington Road/Dunston Road, I believe, just after St Omers Road. That road is most definitely open as I travelled up it the other day. (The bridge you're referring to is on Cross Lane, opposite where Dunston Power Station used to be and at the start of the Handy Drive flyover). Would they reroute it to miss out that low bridge near Metrocentre and would they allocate decekrs. Was always the problem I saw with the 100. Especially on boxing day. Most if not all the drivers took different ways into Newcastle & Metrocentre. But you would get some of them would go under the low bridge. In theory could it be rerouted to go along pass Riverside Depot or via the A1 into Metrocentre I think the 100 wasn't allowed to use deckers because of the amount of low bridges in the Dunston area, apparently they used to have some problems with metrocentre services hitting the low bridges. I recall reading somewhere, can't remember if it was on here or a facebook group, that if a double decker was allocated the allocator was for the high jump. RE: Stagecoach North East Latest News - Ambassador - 10 Nov 2023 I remember when they went through a phase of running the 100 via Scotwsood Rd, Scotswood Bridge and in via that way - used to be much quicker but with the increase in traffic in that area, it's probably much slower now RE: Stagecoach North East Latest News - deanmachine - 10 Nov 2023 (10 Nov 2023, 2:54 pm)Chris 1 wrote Possibly due to the number of route variations the 100 can take. Yeah that's where I got it from, once again, not sure if it was on here or elsewhere. Can’t see why it couldn’t be ran with a decker if the other services manage. Just seems so sad how what was always a premier route in Busways days ended up bottom of the pile. I suppose maybe some of it is to do with the decline of the centre itself. The last bit pretty much, Newcastle is much much better than the Metrocentre nowadays and has everything it has there, unless your bored there's very little reason to go through nowadays. The X66 has had quite a frequency hit / capacity reduction at the other side of the water aswell really. Every 7.5 minutes with a bendy bus to every 10 minutes with a Versa is a massive reduction. Not to mention Arriva swapping Hexham, meant GNE could up the 10/10A/10B frequency between the two and it's just as quick really with the Consett routes on top, especially if you're Eldon Square / Haymarket based. RE: Stagecoach North East Latest News - Unber43 - 10 Nov 2023 GNE swapping ashington for Hexham was a good move at the time, but a poor one overall imo RE: Stagecoach North East Latest News - Storx - 10 Nov 2023 (10 Nov 2023, 9:28 pm)Unber43 wrote GNE swapping ashington for Hexham was a good move at the time, but a poor one overall imo GNE got the better deal from it imo as they gained an area whereas Arriva got absolutely nothing bar getting of routes which we're competitively dumped in their place. Weird place that Stagecoach is the main operator of the Newcastle to Hexham runs and currently the only operator in Hexham, how things go around in circles. Yeah I'm surprised aswell but it will only be hourly service there which is quite bad RE: Stagecoach North East Latest News - MetrolineGA1511 - 11 Nov 2023 (16 Oct 2023, 2:04 pm)Rob44 wrote according to this the £2 fare cap is now till dec 2024, but ive also notice that its not available on the 685 ran by SCNE but is available on the SCNW service 685? I'm assuming these are the same service or Newcastle to carlike? In September I rode route 685 from Carlisle to Newcastle for £2, and it was a Stagecoach North East bus. It’s still the same now, despite the 100 having not ran for a while at the bottom of the daily allocation sheet it says 6/7&100 mustn’t be deckers and anyone who takes one on 6/7 will be disciplined. Where does that go? Surely you mean the X24 or X34? I can remember the no 7 stating on the running boards no double deckers to be allocated this being before the 6 had started and the 7 ran its original route. What’s the reason for the 7 there is no low bridges at all on that route. RE: Stagecoach North East Latest News - Rob44 - 12 Nov 2023 (12 Nov 2023, 8:01 am)MurdnunoC wrote X23? That 8 used to serve Monarch Road, i believe you cant rejoin scotswood road unless you go under a low bridge. Also, are there any rumors about SNE taking on some Washington routes. People in other transport related forums have hinted as such. The 604 used to serve Monarch Road using deckers by using Railway Terrace between Water Street and Dunn Street (before re-joining Scotswood Road). The bridge on Water Street has a height restriction but I don't think the one on Dunn Street has any signed restriction on the bridge itself. Unless there's an incident, it's down to driver discresion, even driver preference. Not sure, but it looks like the bus went in to a car, which caused it to hit another 2 cars.
