The 19/335/350/W2 are a waste of tax payer funds currently though, as they are imo, especially when you've got stuff like areas in Sunderland unserved which used to be covered by the 18 as they've 'got no money'. The W2 just shouldn't exist at all, when the 351 exists which is basically the same route, bar one bus stop. Just a waste of public funds. RE: Gateshead Central Taxis - S830OFT - 16 May 2025 Does anybody know if these were successful in securing their additional operators licences they had put in for several months ago now? Have you noticed the loads carried on the 350/351, especially on the West Allotment - Holystone - Benton Rise - Newcastle part of the routes? I travel regularly on both routes and at certain times it’s difficult to get a seat into the city centre. I believe the 335 is used by people from Hadrian Park, Battle Hill, High Farm areas to ASDA. To be fair, the 350/351 do seem fairly well loaded as you say and I think upping the frequency to something of more use has helped. Actually wouldn't surprise me if GNE attempted to run these commercially next year. Aye no arguments about the West Allotment - Newcastle side of the route, it's why it should be curtailed short. It's the West Allotment to Whitley Bay part that's the problem side, seen it a few times now near Wellfield and the most I've seen on it is 1 person and not surprised either considering it follows a more frequent 57 and doesn't really exactly do anything else. Personally they'd be better to do the old 51/51A route which Arriva done instead with the 351 running to Whitley omitting the annoying Holystone Park backtracking and the 350 running to Holystone Park only https://api.arrivabus.co.uk/routes/services/NMS_JE_51-NMS_JE_51A/220904-221225/51-51A-Newcastle-to-Whitley-Bay-from-04-Sep-2022.pdf - That timetable. Would save a bus aswell and should include the full evening timetable aswell since the whole 351 corridor in Whitley Bay is outright unserved in an evening now. RE: Gateshead Central Taxis - S830OFT - 17 May 2025 Just been looking at the allocation for their buses & it looks like they have no spare buses minus one minibus to fulfill their PVR at the moment, said minibus which ended up on the 35 this evening. I do wonder what will happen when a bus needs a service, new window or have multiple breakdowns in one day. Suppose it's laptop out, gaffer tape out & keep the bus out until it breaks & then blame it on a puncture... The two buses per hour from Holystone Park as well as East Benton Rise is what's needed to attract passengers and grow the service. I don't know if GNE now run the 317 commercially, but the 350/351 could be an attractive proposition if GNE took these on commercially and have options to interwork them with something either end of the route. Honestly can't agree, no-one is going to touch them in their current form as the West Allotment - Whitley Bay section is quiet, especially on the 350. The only way it would ever be commercial would be it it was Newcastle to Holystone Park only imo which does well but then that leaves the rest of the 351 which would need dealt with. The obvious answer would be extending the W2 to Northumberland Park but being made to change in England is a big no no. Evening journeys after 7pm are subsidised I believe. |
