No idea, but they won't be hitting the same profits pre-covid when everything opens it, it might take a while for them to hit that target again, something has to give way.

Metro timetable change will create room for social distancing on the network

The Tyne and Wear Metro will return to a normal daytime service frequency from Monday May 18, maximising the capacity for social distancing on the network.

Nexus, the public body which owns and manages Metro, is increasing the frequency of Metro services from 24 minutes to 12 minutes until 8pm every day, Monday to Friday, following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

There are no trains running between Pelaw and South Hylton in both directions until further notice. This is due to damage to the overhead line. It is estimated that the repair will not be completed before the end of service.

Go North East are accepting Metro tickets in the affected area on bus services 9, 35A, 56

Stagecoach are accepting Metro tickets in the affected area on bus services 8 & 20

We will update you as soon as we have more information.

There are no trains running between St James and North Shields in both directions until further notice. This is due to signalling problems.
We are currently operating a bus replacement service, the number 900, calling at or near to all stations between St James and North Shields. Please purchase tickets from the ticket machine at the station as there is no facility to pay on the bus.
Two cable repairs are underway, our engineers have advised the repairs are taking longer than first thought, it is now estimated they will not be completed until after 6pm. We will update you as soon as we have more information.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Michael - 26 May 2020

Who's running the Metro replacement between South Hylton and St Peters?

Also they've explained what caused it -

Network Rail engineers are working to repair extensive damage to the overhead line in the tunnel through Sunderland station, on the route Metro shares with other train operators.

The overhead line was brought down by a freight train on Friday, causing extensive damage. Repair is made more complex by the age and low clearance of the tunnel.

Warning signMetro services between St Peter’s and South Hylton are to remain suspended until Tuesday June 2. Network Rail is carrying out emergency overhead line repairs at Sunderland. We are keeping in daily contact with Network Rail to see if the repair time will be shortened.

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/metro-bailout-august-coronavirus-timetable-18312285

The Government have given Metro £16.2m to maintain operations over the last few months due to current circumstances through till August 2020, I personally feel that even pre-covid 19 Nexus/DB Regio should be stripped of there operating licence given how poor this system is and be put out to tender for someone else who actually cares to takeover, they've literally wasted away millions of pounds on re-doing the same stretches of infrastructure for god knows how long now and the issue has still not been rectified and improvement in service/performance has still not changed

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - markydh - 27 May 2020

DN Regio hasn’t operated the system for years! NEXUS are doing the best with what they have. I’m not sure what you mean by wasting money on system upgrades?

4001 has had a repaint.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Michael - 12 Jun 2020

We currently have no trains operating between St James - North Shields in either direction due to a power supply fault caused by cable theft. We have 10 replacement buses, the number 900, operating between the affected stations. Metro apologise for the disruption to your journey.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Michael - 18 Jun 2020

Arriva are accepting Metro tickets and passes on services 43, 44, 45 & 46 between Regent Centre and Newcastle City Centre

------------

Revised information

The service is now suspended between Monument and Gateshead Stadium due to the ongoing failed train.

Metro tickets and passes can be used on Go NorthEast services 26 and 27 between Monument and Heworth.

We will update once we have further information

The depot at Howdon is coming along nicely,i relly do hope they keep it even after the upgrade of the Gosforth Depot is complete, tbh imo it would make sense to keep the depot incase a train fails on that part of the network then they can just pull into there rather than hold the entire network up

Would be great if they did, same its only temporary. I'm sure the training facility next to shields, is going to house some of the trains on a night, so they can have earlier/later trains.

I'm glad they're doing the Metro Flow, between Pelaw and Bede too.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - V514DFT - 28 Jun 2020

Yeah, the line between Pelaw and Bede has needed some attention for years, there was also a propsal to have a Station at Victoria Road some years ago which in guessing fell through

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Michael - 30 Jun 2020

Tyne and Wear Metro
@My_Metro
Due to a track circuit fault at Sunderland station, platforms 1 & 2 are not in service. Due to this trains will be stopping at platform 3 for both South Hylton and Airport trains. Passengers are advised to check the destination at the front of the train before boarding.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - V514DFT - 03 Jul 2020

4022 has been scrapped

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Michael - 01 Aug 2020

Loads of working coming up soon:

No trains will run between Gateshead Stadium and Jarrow and Gateshead Stadium and South Hylton to allow for track renewal work. Two replacement bus services will call at or close to all stations in the affected area starting at Gateshead Interchange. Bus 900 Gateshead - Jarrow and Bus 901 Gateshead - South Hylton. Please note some replacement buses will not connect to the first/last trains, so the first bus from Jarrow will begin service at South Shields, the last bus to Jarrow will continue to South Shields and the last six buses to Gateshead will continue to Benton (via Regent Centre), please check the timetable for details..

Express replacement bus services will also be running, stopping at three stations only on each route. Express bus X900 will run between Gateshead - Heworth - Jarrow. Express bus X901 will run between Gateshead - Heworth - Park Lane.

This is on every weekend, including the bank holiday in August - 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd 29th and 30th and the 31st August

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Kuyoyo - 11 Aug 2020

(11 Mar 2020, 5:54 pm)Michael wrote The Government has today agreed to fund a £100m scheme to increase service frequency, reduce journey times, and improve reliability on the Tyne and Wear Metro.

The Metro Flow project will see an existing freight line upgraded and electrified in South Tyneside from September 2022, making it capable of carrying Metro services, boosting the capacity for an extra 30,000 passenger journeys every day.

Three sections of single track on the Metro network totalling three kilometres will be dualled between Pelaw and Bede Metro stations #Budget2020

Not mentioned at the time, but included in the article about the 40th anniversary of the open of the network in this month's issue of 'Today's Railways UK' is that, as part of the Metro Flow project, Nexus have already taken up an option for a total of 4 additional new Stadler Sets, taking the total now on order to 46.

It also confirms the plans for the dualling of the single track sections of the South Shields will utilise the Freight Line alongside these single sections rather than be completely new sections of track. It also states the plan is for both lines to operate a daytime frequency of every 10 minutes once the work is completed, and allow some of the current peak-hour Pelaw terimatiors to be extended to South Shields.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - V514DFT - 11 Aug 2020

Just out of curiosity, but are there any plans (after this covid sods off) to refurbish the remaining underground stations on the network,or are they being left, theres only 2 that have been refurbished, Haymarket and Central Station

Believe it's imminant, I know they ran the first train in there the other day on it's own power.

Percy Main though it's about 300m away compared to East Howdon.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - idiot - 01 Sep 2020

Does anyone know what happened at St Peters earlier today? Metro described it as a police incident but when I drove past there was police, ambulance and ambulance incidentssupport unit.
