(23 Aug 2022, 10:17 pm)DeltaMan wrote All it requires is a bit of gumption from those at GNE towers to see they have a bus sat in Durham for nearly half an hour while still paying the driver to do sweet FA when they could just send it up the Station or the Hospital for next extra cost to them and potentially a bit of extra revenue. The fuel costs would be negligible as I assume they need to send the bus dead to and from somewhere in any case.

Maybe they will if the "temporary" changes become permanent
I feel like extensions to the Station for the 20/65 would actually improve connections.

As there would be nothing worse than getting suitcases onto the 20/65 then getting them off at Durham then walk to the train station

Sadly lacking unfortunately.

Could the driver perhaps be on their break at this point hence the gap?

I doubt it, isn't it like 30 mins break then you can drive for another 5 hours or something like that

RE: September 2022 Service Changes - Retro Nero - 24 Aug 2022

Another long layover....,.39B Saturdays 40 minutes at Washington Galleries

I wonder if thats a drivers break.

However I can imagine the 39A/B becoming 15-20 mins late, so if that is the drivers break it will probably just end up runnning late

No just a layover, as it's only one per hour and one 39A per hour...combined making half hour service

They can't just be having a service layover for 40 mins with a driver just sitting around. That is bad business. It should really interwork with something

what an absolute joke the 39 routes are at the moment. They don’t need to go to houghton or Washington. The routes are far too long now.
for Washington get the 2 2A 8 or 56 from Sunderland
for houghton use 20 20a 35 or 35a

See really the 39 should be a loop.

However the Washington part was part of the Nexus contracted service 37 which was replaced with the 39B, why they didn’t just have the 39 extend to Washington instead of bringing in the 39B I don't know.

And the Houghton addition was so that there would still be a service to Houghton from Doxford for connections to the 20/35/X1/4 outside of peak times. And to Sunderland on the 39's, and the X20 at peaks.

The 39B is the only bus route those in Biddick Woods have. None of the others you mention serve there.

39A also links Houghton and Doxford Park. There's no alternatives for that, once the X20 is permanently temporarily withdrawn in September.

I have just had my start date for riverside does anyone know what different rotas they are at riverside and if the x10 has it's own rota.

There was 4 (in no particular order)

Idk if this one will exist/still does but Q3/29/67/69 (this might be the one new people start on not sure)

Gateshead (All East Gateshead Services, 49/49A/27 etc) mainly circling east gateshead

Metrocentre atm 10's, 6, 12

X10 Rota - X10

You can do overtime on all these afaik if you know the route

RE: September 2022 Service Changes - gc802002 - 26 Aug 2022

Will the 6 be moving to Consett next weekend or staying at Riverside?

I had heard the 6 was moving to Consett, along with streetlites 5453 -5459

No doubt some of those will end up on the 78 with Xlines & other Deckers appearing on the 6.

Thanks I would like to go on the X10 rota.

RE: September 2022 Service Changes - F114TML - 26 Aug 2022

Really? Drive just the X10 all day every day?

Its probably one of those rotas they ask for volunteers only if they have a vacancy.

It is on its own rota (there are a few bits of local service work in it too).  It makes sense so all the depot do not have to route learn it.

RE: September 2022 Service Changes - Jack Gill - 26 Aug 2022

I imagine it's very boring, but some drivers probably find it nice having very few stops throughout the whole journey.

Tbf, its probs only like 3 full X10's a day.

I would feel sorry for anyone on a X21 all days.

I don't think you start on the X10.

I believe you started on the Q3/29/67/69 but from the 3rd Sept 3 of them will be gone. With only the Q3 left.

So it will probs be either Gateshead/Metrocentre. Well I don't know, just assuming but I doubt you'll get the X10 straight away.

Tbh, I think the X21 would be quite nice, it's a good mix of city, motorway, fast A roads and local roads and estates.

Maybe in that aspect, however I feel like driving the X21 is quite tiredsome, I'd done it twice from Tindale Retail Park to Newcastle, and once the other way and it was just tiring.

That's my regular journey, Tindale to Newcastle, I don't think it's particularly bad!
If anything, the route wakes me up because of how bumpy it is!

Hate that road with a passion.
Not a road you can drive on if you want to get anywhere in a hurry.

But if you're a driver wanting to hide away for a few hours, it's probably ideal.

RE: September 2022 Service Changes - Unber43 - 30 Aug 2022

With 3x 65's current over 15-20 mins late it seems unless where change overs are done are changing there will be a lot of 2 hour waits.

A failure of management, surely?

It depends what happens with changeovers from 3rd Sept.

Whether the driver is going to change over at Seaham or Durham and bring a bus incase of delays.

I guess we'll see

As if.  This is GNE.  Will be the passengers fault for slowing the buses down.
