Not been a good couple of days for First with the loss of this and FCC.

RE: Scotrail - Adrian - 28 May 2014

Baffling decision to award it to Serco.

More bad news for First tomorrow - as Abellio expected to be named Scotrail winner

RE: Scotrail - Andreos1 - 11 Oct 2014

Abellio have confirmed plans to purchase AT200 trains for the Edinburgh - Glasgow route.

These will be manufactured at the Hitachi plant in Newton Aycliffe.

Keep meaning to mention this - with the talk of HST's elsewhere reminding me.

A number of HST sets (rumoured to be from FGW), are said to heading to Scotland on Intercity work.
This will displace Turbostars, 156 and 158's.

Not sure if it has been confirmed where the displaced sets will be going, but guessing Northern will be getting some.

63 sets to be built in Aycliffe.

It won't displace all of them though.

If Abellio ScotRail could couple two 156/158s up for the Glasgow Central to Newcastle runs, that'll be grand.

Not sure you'll get 158s while Northern crew them between Newcastle & Carlisle

RE: Scotrail - Andreos1 - 28 Mar 2015

There was a 170 in a canny state as I passed it in Haymarket depot the other day.
All caved in down one side of the front and a window was out, just a few blocks further down the carriage.

No idea how or why, but can't see it moving any time soon.

Carlisle drivers and guards sign 158s and a few have made it across to Newcastle previously (as well as 153s). However Newcastle crew don't sign them at all and, from my viewpoint, I can't see Northern wanting to train all of their staff up.

From my experience, the Tyne Valley doesn't really need expansion (barring a few services - ie some trips on Saturdays to/from Metrocentre) but this is sometimes handled by ScotRail by putting on 2x 156s anyway.

In an unrelated note, the new Fife Circle contract starts on Wednesday 1st April 2015 utilising DRS' Class 68s and Mark 2 coaches, taking over from DB Schenker.

Did Heaton Depot not previously had 158's in the past before Northern did a re-juggle of placement of rolling stock?

Although I highly doubt it but it be interesting if/when the pacers do go whether or not Heaton will get 158's from Scotrail or within the Northern fleet although I do suspect it will more than likely to be 156's only.

When did a 153 operate on the Tyne Valley line? First I heard of that one.

Prior to privatisation operated under BR's regional railways division (according to Wikipedia):

RE: Scotrail - northern156 - 29 Mar 2015

Also has been 153s in passenger service with Northern - I can only remember one time though.
Another time a 153 came past was whilst one was going empty from Neville Hill to Kilmarnock Works so took the odd path via Newcastle & Carlisle.

Heaton have the odd 158 and 150 however these are normally there for big maintenance jobs, ie full overhauls etc.
These come up from Neville Hill, Leeds, via the ECML. No Newcastle or Heaton traincrew sign them (there may be one or two but this isn't enough to run a service with them).

Abellio ScotRail
Operating the ScotRail franchise from 1st April 2015 until 31st March 2022

Abellio took over all of the services currently operated by First ScotRail on 1 April 2015, except for the Caledonian Sleeper services, which will transfer to a separate franchise operated by Serco.
The franchise agreement requires the introduction of 'Great Scottish Scenic Railway' trains on the West Highland, Far North, Kyle, Borders Railway and Glasgow South Western lines. Steam special services will also be promoted by ScotRail.
Free Wi-Fi will be available on all trains.

There's no need to reply like that.... He was just pointing out that DRS have been operating them for a few weeks now. The whole sets look quite smart it must be said

RE: Scotrail - northern156 - 06 Apr 2015

I have no problem Tommy, just pointing out.

There's one rake of Mk2s that is still in DRS livery but I think, still refurbished to the same spec.
68006 and 68007 in SpotRail, plus a DRS-liveried spare (004 I think).
