Humerous or irrelevant AdWords - Andreos1 - 29 May 2016

Appreciate they aren't everyone's cup of tea, but are deemed a requirement on quite a few sites these days.

For those of us who can't or won't I stall adblock software, I thought it would be amusing sharing the ads that have popped up and are apparently tailored to suit our personal needs.

I have had quite a few humorous ones, including ads that suggest I try out modelling and buy a hoverboard.
Currently I have one that is suggesting hotel stays in London.
I had to hide my phone earlier when a dating site was suggested. Didn't want Mrs C seeing it and getting the wrong idea.

The screenshot attached is my favourite. If anyone wishes to translate, please feel free - cos I haven't a clue!

The tailored and personalised targeting isn't working.

It's not a NEB issue, as it's Google that serve the ads directly.

A few pointers though:
- Check your 'Ads Settings' at Google.
- Check what devices are signed in to your Google account.
- Contact Google Support via their product forum.

RE: Humerous or irrelevant AdWords - Jimmi - 29 May 2016

I'm only getting "Leave the EU" campaign and Go Outdoors on here at the moment.

Not certain if this is AdWords but... I quite often on some other sites, keep getting adverts asking if you want to hook-up with Asian women, no idea why, these have popped up on stuff like news sites and other sites that are nothing like what is being advertised. I haven't been searching for owt like that, honest! Blush

I know it isn't a NEB issue, however I feel the ads shown can reflect on the site.
I have spent time in the past (as a business and website owner) looking in to ad sense and ad words, so understand how it works. My settings are fine as far as I can see.

Fozz may get jealous (cos he has mentioned that he has a soft spot), but according to the latest ad, there is a Russian woman just a few miles from me and is waiting for me.

The Charities Aid Commission are wanting me to set up a direct debit too.

Both,

Click the 'X' and mark it as irrelevant or inappropriate, if that's what you feel about the particular ad, but I can assure you that it's working based on browsing habits and what information Google has on you.

But feel free to contact Google if you have concerns over what is displayed, as I've noted above.

Apart from not wanting a skip (particularly in North Wales where Alan's Skip Hire is), I have never had PPI - so would have no need to search for it...

I've never had it either, but it doesn't stop people ringing me on two mobiles, a house phone and a desk phone about it, constantly. Without going in to personal finances too much, I'd suggest it's likely to be a company targeting users searching for banking, credit cards, or a particular financial institute.

Bailey group business advisors? Actually scratching my head about that one.

RE: Humerous or irrelevant AdWords - Ambassador - 29 May 2016

All I've had, somewhat ironically, is ads for Google Adwords

Same here, with some "mbna" adverts occasionally.

Part of me is quite disappointed that I haven't had anything more exotic yet!

Oh dear!

Though someone Husband used to work with actually did hook up with a Thai bride. Until then, we had no idea that people actually did that for real. Hopefully, she didn't mind that the guy lived almost entirely on crisps and instant noodles.

I've been trying to track some down for ages. Thanks for that Big Grin

Wow!

No idea who she is, but a trip is looking likely!
Anyone else up for it?

RE: Humerous or irrelevant AdWords - Adrian - 26 Jun 2016

Has anyone logged their issues with Google yet? I'm sure they'd be more than happy to investigate, if their ad engine is indeed 'broken'.

I have reported a number of ads. No idea whether it is a complete coincidence, but my email account receives an astounding amount of spam every weekend and has done since the ads were launched on the forum.

I had a Mitre Delta once. Not sure it was the worlds greatest football, but it was a lovely football

This came up earlier and I pressed the wrong button. After a little waiting it re-appeared.

I've said numerous times, that if people have issues with the ads being displayed, they need to contact Google product support.

Support have been contacted, ads blocked/reported and settings are as tight as they can be.

Try browsing the site using an Incognito / private browsing tab, and see if the ads still appear?

Oh and report to Google Product Support, if you feel that the ads served aren't correct.

Thread closed

This thread has had it's time, and going on and on about the ads aren't going to resolve any problems you may have with them. If you're having genuine problems with Google Adwords/Adsense on this site, then please follow the advice below.

1) I don't want to see ads. How do I block them?
Answer - Whilst we'd hope that people would choose to support the site by allowing ads, we understand that some people may not want to see them, which is ultimately their choice. You can block them by using a browser extension such as AdBlock, which is available for Chrome and Firefox.

2) How do I opt in or out of seeing personalised ads?
Answer - See this article.

3) What do I do if I think Google is serving me poor or incorrect ads?
Answer - Report it to Google.

4) I'm receiving fake virus, popups or other intrusive ads.
Answer - Report it to Google as per 3, but also let us know by reporting it in this thread.

Thanks for your cooperation.
