Stagecoach 2017/2018 Order - AIG20 - 18 Jan 2017
Information from "Steven Knight Media - Fleet News Ramblings":
➨Stagecoach UK Bus 2017/18 new vehicle orders
The various Stagecoach UK Bus subsidiary companies are currently setting their budgets for the 2017/18 financial year. The current work will confirm that bids for new vehicles, which have already been made, have been agreed. The full order details are not expected to be confirmed by Stagecoach Group, however, until all the budget planning work has been completed and signed off.
We are aware, however, that new Enviro 400MMCs for the Stagecoach Merseyside & South Lancashire fleet have been agreed and delivery of 33 vehicles, with fleet numbers from 10811, will start imminently.
I wonder what's on order for the North East this year, if any?

Hopefully there is, wouldn't mind more gas buses at Sunderland but with all the cuts to services, i very much doubt that.
Would like to see the E's get new buses though, maybe the 100 too.

The "E" routes should be upgraded to allow better competition with GNE's route 20 which is allocated vehicles which have free Wi-Fi, USB plug sockets, next stop announcements, and so on. I assume the changes to service 18/19 will be putting extra pressure on the "E" routes as well?

Probables will, like I've said before, i'm expecting the 18 to be gone by end of this year or the first half of 2018... 2 sets of changes in 6/7 months, both to it's route and times, it seems they are just slowly withdrawing it.....

Hopefully the open tops for Kendel are here by the Summer, as i'm heading to lakes on the 5th August for a week.

What amount of profit!? Or do you think these cuts are just to piss people off? Fact - Newcastle isn't the cash cow some people seem to think it is.

Using the word 'fact' doesn't make it so. Cite your evidence. Personally, I see the cuts as a bargain basement way of withdrawing the 54 reg buses which would otherwise have required direct replacements.

Having read a very nasty rumour on another forum recently, I would echo your call for people to back "facts" with evidence.

I've just checked the last financial report for Busways as a whole and it made a post-tax profit in 15/16 of £9.03 million, which was actually an £800K increase. Cleveland Transit was £2.5 million. Greater Manchester Buses South was £9.46 million. I mention the latter because it's various depots see heavy investment year on year. To put that into context, Busways has less than half the number of vehicles GMBS has, yet generates almost as much post-tax profit.

Interesting; I've just done a search on the Companies' House site for GMBS, albeit I can only decipher Pre-tax profits. That seems to show gross profit of £12.526m (is £3m+ a bit much for tax?). Point being, profits have nose dived over the last two years. Turnover has actually increased, but I suspect that's more to do with fare increases and the transfer of the GMBW (ie. Wigan) accounts to the main company. It all points to a big increase in costs
My point about "rumour v fact" is that the Statement blames the drop in profit on a repayment of an internal loan, the continued stagnation of the Economy and cuts in LA funding. However, the "rumour" is that the drop in profits is due to the cost of "Roadworks in the city" estimated at £8 million. As such, the company has been "instructed by Perth" to cut services across GM to recover that money.
As regards the seemingly large investment - you'll note that it isn't continuing into 2017/8 - this is presumably due to a combination of trying to stop a voluntary "LEZ" becoming compulsory, and decision to get rid of MANs (of all ages) as quickly as possible. A more subtle variation of the latter could be a bid to generally replace single-deckers with double-deckers to allow for across the board cuts in headways, whilst maintaining peak hour capacity. That would save the most money "on paper", but with punctuality worsening by the day, especially outside the city boundary, and the reduced flexibility for day-to-day maintenance (virtually all buses out from 0700-1800), I suspect it will only accelerate off-peak passenger loss.
The whole situation is complicated by mixed messages about the Bus Services Bill, of course. On the one hand, we had the Second Reading in the Commons last week, with some very surprising and encouraging comments from certain GM MPs (of all three main parties), with a rumour of a further announcement this coming Friday. OTOH, there is a suggestion that the fallout from Brexit will delay the whole process until after the Mayoral Elections - which in turn could put the whole Bill in doubt, although the source of this suggestion hasn't explained how.

And to provide a loose comparison (difficult when the three companies have totally different accounting years), Arriva Northumbria's post-tax profit for 2015 was just £1.2 million! Go North East's was £6.5 million for 14/15. 15/16 haven't appeared on the Companies House website, yet (they should be on in the next few weeks, though). So based on all this, I would suggest the the actual facts support the notion that Stagecoach do very well out of Tyne and Wear!

Due for the summer they are. 17013/4/5/6/17217/17221/17277 (minus 17012) will be up for disposal with 17692 transferring to Carlisle.

Yes very small order compared to previous years (under 300 compared to 480 plus extra last year)
Perhaps DDA deadlines have inflated the last two years orders

In the process of delivery at present are Volvo B5LH/Alexander Dennis Enviro400MMCs 13111-7 (SF17 VMT/U/V/W/X/Y/Z) to join the older examples at Arbroath. These are to be used on the 20/21 (Dundee to Forfar/Kirrie/Brechin/Stracathro)

Which handbook is this? There are quite a few on the market - albeit some aren't single operator publications.

It's the British bus book publishing. Released every year and lists all upcoming orders for the year ahead (albeit sometimes parts of orders could be diverted)
