Length wise they are the same at 11.8m. In my mind, the longer versions are still the 300 and I've made the mistake of calling them that on here a few times. It's like getting rid of the 400 and calling that a 200 too. The various numbers gave the different types and identity. It was the 32 that went to Seaburn (Sundays only) before the 31 came on
17 started 23-03-87 (CBS to Seaburn) 31 started 11-04-88 32 started 18-07-87 (Sundays, Doxford Park - Seaburn) then 11-12-87 (Doxford Park - CBS) Interestingly I found reference Stagecoach North East: Latest News & Discussion - July 2019 - cbma06 - 11 Jul 2019 (11 Jul 2019, 10:06 am)stagecoachbusdepot wrote It was too early this morning for me [emoji1787], yea the 32, service 17 came about from service 17A/17B which started up from Wearside (Redby)circular service . I've often wondered how they chose the service numbers beyond those that were direct changes from 102 ->2 etc. So for example, why make a 32 but no 30, or 31 at the time. And why the 9 was never used until the South Hylton service in Stagecoach days etc. Busways initially operated a 17 that became 17A/17B then back to 17. The good old days with a proper network of services instead of a few high frequency routes and little else. The one from St Peters to The Forge was the last of the three and started in August 1994. |
