Arriva North East: Withdrawn Buses - peter - 12 May 2020

Not sure if the fleet list is completely up to date yet, but just been looking through and was surprised to see some of the old R-COO and V-DNL Darts still listed on there as being withdrawn! Are these still officially on the fleet as I would have thought they'd have been scrapped long ago?

Ah great, thank you for taking the time to update it! Wow can't believe they've kept those withdrawn darts all this time. I suppose if they have the space in the yard at Darlington and Stockton it saves the expense of removing them, cause I doubt they'd get much for them for scrap!

How many darts are still there which were Busways originally ?

None of those are ex Busways ones... they're all low floor versions, some new to ANE, some Arriva London.

Still quite odd to be honest!

So the story goes, they were never disposed of after withdrawal due to them having a high residual value left on the books. The intention was to wait until they had depreciated sufficiently before scrap, so they wouldn't make a loss on the disposal of the asset. That was years ago though!

They'd probably get between £1200 and £1500 in scrap value (less if they've removed major components) so it's odd that they wouldn't just send them off for scrap.

The L-VNL and P-EEF batch of Darts are long gone, I think, Chris!

Hmm very peculiar indeed! Clearly Arriva are in no rush to make a bit of extra cash lol

RE: Withdrawn Buses - Ianthegoon - 20 Jun 2020

Arriva certainly seem happy to leave their elderly vehicles lying around for some time! In fact, I recall seeing quite a few Darts and Cadets at the back of Darlington a couple of years ago - is it likely that they're the same ones shown on Dan's list in the second post? Or did they move them between storage loactions?

1003 and three MPDs (assumed to be 1736/38/39 from Redcar) also.

Can anyone confirm the MPDs?

RE: Withdrawn Buses - Cobalt271 - 10 Jul 2020

1769 has been moved to the 'graveyard' section of Ashington depot today, believe it has been withdrawn and replaced with a Solo from Belmont.

Speaking of Solo's at Belmont does anybody know the current status of 2823 - YK08 ETZ? According to Bustimes it hasn't worked in service since 8 Feb (obviously there's every chance it has operated since then and just hasn't tracked) but was wondering if it was longterm VOR or had perhaps been withdrawn from service?

The darts are still in redcar depot along with 2828

RE: Withdrawn Buses - V514DFT - 12 Jul 2020

I thought 2828 went up in smoke?

It did indeed, I think Ryland was making the point that the withdrawn darts are actually still at the bottom of Redcar depot along with whatever remains of 2828

It did hence why it's withdrawn. I think it was duff information about the Redcar Darts being sold to Alpha - they are still in Redcar's yard.
There is one in Thornton's yard too.

Same reason in London there is a multitude of withdrawn buses from time passed just sitting in a yard.
