Rattle Free Streetlites - streetdeckfan - 07 Jul 2021 Something strange seems to be going on, the emergency exit doors on the Streetlites seem to not be rattling anymore... I'm on 5456 right now and it feels fairly refined. I'm not sure what they've done, but at idle the engine also seems a lot more smooth, no more bone shaking. No no I agree, I was on an X66 a few weeks ago and a 49A (5454) last week and didn't even hear the rattling or feel the vibration as much from the engine. Do you have the batteries in your hearing aids? Have your ear drums exploded? Have you got a bit chewing gum stuck in those lug holes? It's all I can think of when you say that there's no rattling on a Streetlite. Maybe they've just set the idle higher, but it doesn't sound like it. Hand held "ahem" massagers are cheaper though RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - streetdeckfan - 07 Jul 2021 (07 Jul 2021, 11:27 am)JP6004 wrote I'll take your word for it! If I had more time up in Gateshead today I would have had a play around (on the buses, that is) Sent from my LM-G710 using Tapatalk RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - JP6004 - 07 Jul 2021 (07 Jul 2021, 11:34 am)streetdeckfan wrote I was gonna say at least you can sit on the chair, but...With your handheld massager I cant remember last time I was on one. Next time I'm at metro I'll sample the X66 RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - Adrian - 07 Jul 2021 I'm sure someone mentioned a few years ago, that the main cause of the rattle could be resolved by tightening up something on the fire door. I tend to have the misfortune of a Streetlite on most day tickets I do, and I'd say the vast majority still sound like they're going to fall apart mid-journey. I'm sure if it was that simple, it would have been resolved long ago! I have a feeling the changes they've made with regards the engine have done most of the work in resolving it, the Streetlites I've used that are 'fixed' definitely idle a lot smoother, and it was at idle that the door was at it's worst RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - V514DFT - 07 Jul 2021 Wonder how long they'll last rattle free on the Coaster, the roads round here are horrendous, imagine if it went along Coniston Road (Howdon),theres the massive pothole at the end of it RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - BusLoverMum - 08 Jul 2021 Deffo the fire doors. Kleenex ftw. RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - xpm - 09 Jul 2021 IIRC the modifications recently have included new engine mounts. RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - streetdeckfan - 09 Jul 2021 (09 Jul 2021, 8:37 am)xpm wrote IIRC the modifications recently have included new engine mounts. That would definitely explain the much smoother engine, the old engine mounts must have been made from concrete! Ne14ne1 - ne14ne1 - 25 Nov 2021 Jesus that is horrendous. I thought it was bad enough while on the move but once it stops and idles, my god! RE: Ne14ne1 - Adrian - 25 Nov 2021 (25 Nov 2021, 10:44 am)ne14ne1 wrote Jesus that is horrendous. And when we talk about encouraging people to use the bus instead of their car, you'd have to say that if your car sounded like that, you'd be taking it to the nearest garage! I wonder if they're going to continue modifying the rest of them, as the ones that have been 'fixed' really are a joy to ride Sent from my AC2003 using Tapatalk RE: Ne14ne1 - Keeiajs - 25 Nov 2021 (25 Nov 2021, 8:52 pm)streetdeckfan wrote That's just a standard Streetlite, they've been like that since new.Which ones have been "fixed" RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - idiot - 25 Nov 2021 Plugs not working on the prince bishops I got to work. Luckily charged my phone up at work. They don't work on basically any of the streetlites bar 17' plates. Not sure about the 66' RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - idiot - 25 Nov 2021 They shouldn't be advertised then. Even tried the USB port hoping that it would charge more than 2% on the 20 min journey but that didn't work either RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - streetdeckfan - 25 Nov 2021 (25 Nov 2021, 10:53 pm)idiot wrote They shouldn't be advertised then. On a B5 last night I lost 4% in 90 minutes RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - idiot - 26 Nov 2021 Wow. That's impressive! It doesn't go unnoticed by general passengers either, remember getting on one of Arriva's on the 22 once and passengers were all looking towards the emergency exit door wondering what the horrific racket was. I try to dodge them whenever I'm able to. But then you also have the engine which sounds awful like it is being ploughed into the ground RE: Ne14ne1 - streetdeckfan - 26 Nov 2021 (26 Nov 2021, 1:38 pm)Jimmi wrote Incredibly poor that it is considered to be a standard expectation from a vehicle type and from my experiences it is quite common especially on the Daimler engined examples. And yet, the problem is seemingly resolvable given that GNE now have a few that have been 'fixed'. I'm sure someone further up suggested it was the engine mounts causing the problem. You'd think that would be identified pretty early on in production! Sent from my AC2003 using Tapatalk RE: Rattle Free Streetlites - deanmachine - 26 Nov 2021 I mean, I may have complained that Sunderland lost it's Euro 6 buses, but I definitely don't miss those Daimler engined Streetlites now they've gone. Quite nice doing a 2 or a 39 now in relative peace and quiet. |
