Great Western Railway/FGW - Andreos1 - 12 Jun 2013 Www.rmt.org.uk/Templates/Internal.asp?NodeID=174667 Just read the press release from the RMT about the Great Western Railway coming back into public ownership. According to it, the Government have set up a company and applied for certification to take the railway back 'in house'. All that's happening is DOR are being mobilised in case discussions with First over a further extension of the Greater Western franchise falls through. Exactly the same as last year when they were mobilised for Intercity West Coast following Virgin's legal bid that has lead to the current franchise extensions. Cos I'm struggling to see where you are coming from... It's jumping the gun saying that it will be renationalised when all that is happening is that the DOR are preparing in-case they are needed. After reading it and re-reading it, it stated DOR are applying for certification incase the contract can't be extended and is essentially an option to fall back on, should talks fail... It might just be me not seeing it with being tired, but if you could copy and paste the section you are referring to, it would be appreciated. It is believed that the pair of 150s were operating 2E68 (1339 Penzance - Exeter St David's) with the 43 believing to have arrived on 5A91 (1500 Laira Depot to Plymouth) but ran earlier so actually got to Plymouth at 1500 rather than departing the depot at that time. If this is correct, it means that the 43 set would have been in the platform 34 minutes before 2E68 arrive at Plymouth which it did at 1534. Apparently the signaller misjudged the space available to share the platform. Oh dear Andreos, that looks like typical newspaper type speak! Cringe! Train derailed on trap/catch points designed to do just that job if a train passes a signal at danger. I've seen rumours the signal was 'put back' after a possible error by the signaller(s), but that is no more than a rumour. Full details, as always, will be available in the appropriate RAIB report when issued.
