How did Buses used to enter Newcastle - Unber43 - 01 Aug 2022
So, I just remembered that from my past experience this was quite a few years ago, but when leaving Gateshead the buses would never go under the tunnel to come out at John Dobson Street, what way did they used to go into New Bridge Street & Eldon Square?

It was generally only stuff from the East End that used New Bridge Street.
There was a short period during the High Level works, when there was a load of services diverted over the Swing Bridge and up Dean St.
More recently, I think some services used Pilgrim St. Sure the X10 did for a period.

I remember being on the 21 going down blacklett street being terrified that someone was going be run out in front of the bus

Yeah, more recently, they went up pilgrim street, turned left at the top onto Blackett Street then turn right at the crossroads. Not sure why it changed though; congestion?

Buses into Worswick Street came from the Tyne Bridge the way they do now under Swan House roundabout up central motorway left to the bottom of John Dobson St. but turned left at Market St. East onto carliol sq. which then turned right onto Worswick Street Bus station.

It used to when the Levante Coaches were on then stopped Midway when the Plaxton Elite came into service

That very rarely happened from my experience.
Hight Level Bridge, Westgate Road, Neville Street, Grainger Street (via bus link opposite Central Station, also buses dropped off outside of the bottom entrance of the Newgate Centre), Newgate Street, Percy Street, and then, Eldon Square.
That was the usual route for buses coming in from Gatehsead

I presume GNE stopped using Pilgrim St & Blackett St due to congestion when having to later turn right from Percy St into Prudhoe Place for the Eldon Sq Bus Station approach.
Possibly also because it’s been the long term aim to pedestrianise Blackett St, so the 21 X10 etc now helpfully follow the designated Bus Loop (up John Dobson St, left onto St Mary’s Place then left onto Percy St where they can more easily turn left into Prudhoe Place for Eldon Sq Bus Station). It also means easier access for passengers alighting for Northumberland St, Civic Centre, the universities, Haymarket etc.

buses used to come over the Tyne Bridge into Worswick Street, and over Redheugh Bridge to go into Marlborough Crescent (center for life)
