I know it's generally something that me and others moan about timetables with uneven patterns but it's good to see that the new £4.5m AI system that Firstbus (https://news.firstbus.co.uk/news/first-b...s-industry) is using is bringing out timetables which are all clean and efficent for customers... oh wait

What a mess the new timetables are in Stoke, with completely bizarre timetables, as an understatement

This is the sort of nonsense which is being produced - https://www.firstbus.co.uk/potteries/plan-journey/timetables?service=103&day=mf&date=2024-09-01 and even worse according to RailUK who have cyphered the timetables, there's buses sitting around 20 minutes here and there doing absolutely nothing so there's no reason why they're like this.

Absolutely crazy, I guess the management there don't have a braincell between them to intervene and not notice it's a complete mess. It's like giving a kid with a computer who doesn't know what he's doing asking ChatGDP to create a timetable and literally use the thing without actually looking at it. They've literally produced a service which is worse than currently and increased the PVR in the process, what an own goal.

As i mentioned in a previous thread I've been using the bus a lot recently to get to work. In the past when i was a young un I obviously saw different types of fraud like jumping the metro, two lads getting on the bus and passing the bus pass backward so getting 2 on with same pass but what ive seen for the last few days...

A teenager in school uniform ( school in Gateshead ) gets on the 93 i get to Old Durham Road and every time her card is not working. The machine just make that Nosie like a (errrr). Every time the driver has just waved her on but this morning she get a stern talking too as i think the driver must have remembered her. He still let her on after she said she had no cash wan something about having to walk.... and she had quite a grin on her face as she went upstairs.

Looks like Liverpool City Region are the next to move

The North West city region looks likely to become the second outside London to adopt a franchise model for its bus services

Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram has announced that he will be following in the footsteps of nearby Manchester and introducing franchising to the region’s buses, a move he says will herald a ‘new era’ for public transport in the region.

The decision was made following the recommendation of local authority leaders at a Combined Authority meeting. Mayor Rotheram, said after the meeting: “Today marks the start of a new era for public transport in our area – we’re taking back control of our buses. Hundreds of thousands of people in our area rely on buses to get about every day, with 82% of all public transport journeys taken by bus. Yet, for far too long, our residents have been forced to contend with a second-class service that places profit before passengers and leaves behind the very people who need it most.

“Today we have chosen a completely new course for the future of our buses. Under franchising, we will have greater control over fares, tickets and routes to ensure that bus services are run in the best interests of passengers – not shareholders. Whilst it will take a few years to re-regulate the whole network, and the change will be transformational – it is not one that will happen overnight. There are several stages that we still need to go through before we can expect to see franchised buses on our roads.

“By turning back the clock on nearly 40 years of failed deregulation, we’re putting our buses back where they belong: under public control. It is another massive step forward on our journey to building an integrated London-style transport network that will make getting around our region faster, cheaper, greener, simpler and more reliable.”

Cllr Liam Robinson, leader of Liverpool City Council and Portfolio Holder for Transport, added: “This is a landmark decision and the culmination of many years of hard work and careful consideration. The shared vision of Mayor Rotheram, myself and other leaders in the city region is of a bus service that works for everyone – and we believe that means taking greater local public control of the network so we can do things like set fares, routes and timetables.

“And people overwhelmingly agree with us – almost 70% of respondents to the consultation held this summer said they backed plans for bus franchising in the Liverpool City Region. This important step forward means we can now start planning for how we improve bus services in the future, whether that’s by simplifying ticketing to ensure passengers always pay the lowest fares for their journeys or making sure services are better connected with rail, active travel routes and our Mersey Ferries.”

The decision follows a 12-week consultation which found that 69% of respondents supported franchising, and all six of the region’s local authority leaders recommended that a franchised system would provide the best value to the taxpayer.

It is planned that franchising will be introduced in phases, with the first franchised buses starting to run in St Helens by late 2026 and the move to a fully franchised system across the whole of the Liverpool City Region completed by the end of 2028.

Also in the fleet is RM 5 (VLT 5), numerically the first production Routemaster, and ‘coach’ Routemasters RMC 1464 (464 CLT) and RMC 1453 (453 CLT).

And on Friday 2nd November 2022 they held a special heritage run with RM2217 (CUC 217C) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/adammalark...ateposted/ on Service 137 to Streatham Hill which I was blissfully unaware of and just so happened to be in the right place at the right time to capture this very well kept AEC Routemaster, hopefully London Bus Musuem or Londoner Buses Heritage Operations which is recent start up in London using Routemastes pick them up depending on how much Arriva want for them.

I have started a list of employee and work buses. I have got a good amount of routes so far and hopefully people here can assist in filling the list.

It is linked on Google Sheets purely because this thread would be never ending if I posted the tables here. I have split the routes into 4 categories.

Home - Workplace - Routes here specifically contracted work buses which generally have more stops and at least 1 stop is not a Park and Ride, Bus Station or Train Station.

Interchange - Workplace - Routes here are specifically contracted work buses which only call at a Park & Ride site, Bus Station or Train Station

Local Bus Services - Routes here are registered as a local bus route. Unless otherwise stated, all of the routes in this category should be able to be used by the public to make their a journey.

Internal Work Shuttle - This is for buses which don't pick up anywhere except the companies sites or just does a loop of the site if it is a large site. This can include park and rides just outside if it is part of a normal service.

Where the information is known, I have put the operator. If applicable and again, if known, the primary contractor is noted. The primary contractor being NETS, First Travel Solutions, Zeelo etc. The contractor, is the person to contact with regards to the service and and booking seats. The operator is purely put in for enthusiasts.

If anyone can fill any gaps, it would be greatly appreciated and hopefully this helps a few people who want to spot buses in obscure places and job seekers to spot where an unadvertised bus may run. That said, I take not responsibility for any wrong information and do not rely upon this list for a job or bus spotting, please do some of your own research as well. This is merely there to assist.

RULES:

There must be some evidence online that the service runs recently (so within the past few months) and believed to still run (Buses currently Covid suspended are not included. These can be included as/when these routes restart).

Any services must have a return run. No 'only to work' services. People must be able to return on the same service.
For local bus services, if the bus runs quite regularly, the primary use for the bus has to be for the workplaces. The route/route group should not be a normal bus providing local travel for local people but happens to pass through an industrial estate. That said, diversions at certain times to specifically to serve an industrial estate (for example) do count. Perhaps use some common sense on this.
Bus operator staff routes are not included. This includes home-depot and depot-depot routes. I say this because the lists would be endless.
Uni buses are also not included.

Here is the link, if anyone wants to see or help contribute.

This may cause a debate, whats everyones views on school kids filling up normal buses on normal routes, when there is perfectly good enough school buses provided, personally i think they should be banned, shame there isnt a way where the bus pass knows if that child lives on a school bus route or in close proximity to a school bus route that takes them to their school, ita a difficult one to explain, but it irritates me that people who have been to work or are elderly and are just trying to go about their business have to board a bus and listen to potty mouth teenagers who have no respect for anything,or cant get on because its full, which is what happened today (17.9.21),i mean luckily today was a warm day,but what happens if today it had of been chucking it down and had of been cold, that poor elderly man could of ended up ill, because he had to stand and wait for the next bus,or had to walk to find an alternative,i know i probably sound boring, but i was brought up in a time where you respect your elders, its not on,and something needs to be done about it,but that'll never happen
