Partly inspired by seeing a photo on FB of the X10 using Durham Road through Shipcote and seeing the current X10 displaying 'Bus Full' as it left Wolviston heading north yesterday evening, it got me thinking about Express Services of yesteryear.

Tried filling in the gaps, using my knowledge and memories.
But if anyone can help a man out, it would be appreciated.

X1 (Newcastle to Middlesbrough). Now ANE X12.
X2 (Sunderland to Bishop?). Doesn't exist.
X3 (?)
X4 (Newcastle to Sunderland). Partly replaced by GNE 56.
X5 (Newcastle to Hartlepool). Partly replaced by GNE X1
X6 (Langley Park to Sunderland). Doesn't exist.
X7/8 (Consett to Sunderland/Washington services?). Partly replaced by 8/78.
X9 (?)
X10 (Newcastle to Middlesbrough (now operates via A19). Was joint op. Now fully GNE.

There were a load of Expresses from various parts of Durham to Newcastle and Metrocentre for a period in the late 80s early 90s and were operated by a number of companies.
Ditto the ones from South Shields, such as the X22. But I'm sure they were in the VFM days.

I can also remember the following, but unsure if they ran in the 80s. Or came after.
X85
X88
X89
X90
X94
X95/96

I vaguely remember some X90 'somethings' running to Whickham/Lobley Hill for a period too.

Any help in filling in the blanks would be appreciated!

After 14 years of occupying our current "home" in Felling, earlier today we received the phone call we all dread.....
Our landlord, Bizspace, has decided they will no longer be renewing our lease and are looking to take back possession. We have to leave the premises in Felling by 31st March 2024.

The reasons being given by the landlord is due to the current state of the roof (which the landlord has repeatedly ignored), and as such, turned our neighbours into making the decision to leave. This means that we will be the only occupants of the entire warehouse from the end of January.
We have tried to negotiate and plead, but alas, it falls on deaf ears. The only response we get now is..... "The board have made their decision to claim back the whole of T Block and then review our options sorry".

In 14 years our rent and bills have been paid on time, never ever late. Our concern now is where do we go with around 30 vehicles, both group and privately owned collectively - and that's without the tools, equipment, forklift truck and spare parts we have accumulated - all of which we are expected to be removed in less than 3 months.

If anyone can point us in the direction of somewhere suitable in the North East of England who could accommodate us please get in touch.
We have the largest collection of ex Tyne and Wear PTE/Busways service vehicles and we would like very much to keep them in the North East.
I've been working on creating a full list of buses in the Northern General / Go Northern / Go North East (and associated sub-companies) since the current numbering system came into place in the mid-1970's. I think I have the majority of the fleet in my list already, but there are still rather a lot of gaps - especially amongst older vehicles and minibuses, which I have found hard to research, so I thought it might be possible to post it on here, as I am sure a lot of you will be much more knowledgeable than me on the fleet. Any comments or help with filling in the blanks would be much appreciated. The list can be found here : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing
Quite an interesting read about SMS and some of their old routes.

Interesting to compare to what exists now and what's not going to exist in a few weeks.

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone could tell me why the Go North East Leyland Lynes were rebuilt both at the front and rear? Was also wondering when these rebuilds were done? When they were brand new they looked like this at the front: - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ian_simpson/2938247546 and then rebuilt to look like this https://www.flickr.com/photos/66289212@N07/49926097833. When they were new I remember they had the number plate on the bonnet at the rear and i'm sure it was moved to the top right corner and a new bonnet was fitted. Also noticed they done a rear rebuild with some of the ex MCW Metrobus Mark IIs. Just asking out of curiousity really as I have been watching some old bus vids on YouTube.

Thanks
