RE: Trains - northern156 - 09 Aug 2015

Yesterday that wasn't the Royal Train.
There is never any paths on Realtime Trains for it due to it being a sensitive move. However it does show on the Realtime Maps you can get access to (such as Railcam).

That charter today was the Noah's Arc from Glasgow to Crewe, a charity charter formed from a GBRf staff charter yesterday.

We found out that whoever told Lee was bullshitting.

I gathered it wouldn't be the Royal Train, mainly due to the fact RailUKForums wasn't in meltdown  Big Grin

Why does moves like the Royal Train not get shown on websites such as RTT etc? Does it not show up at all, even as a STP or VSTP?

The Royal Train operated by Freightliner Class 70s and Arriva Trains Wales DVTs.  Big Grin

And as it was Bullshit Andrew said if it didn't come he owed me, Lee and Davie all £100.

I hadn't realised that they weren't, until Sean had said, but it does make sense. Putting Royal movements on an open data service would breach about every security rule in the book.

I think I've got more chance of getting Michelle Keegan round my place tonight, than you have of seeing that £100.

RE: Trains - MurdnunoC - 09 Aug 2015

Anyone going up to Edinburgh (or Tweedbank) next month to sample the new Borders Railways?

As part of my Masters Degree, I presented a paper on the Waverley Line and its closure. It's partial reopening holds quite a bit of appeal to me.

Apparently, a return journey between Edinburgh and Tweedbank is priced at £16 peak and £11.50 off-peak.

I was thinking about it for early Sept, as that's the next time I'll be up there.

I'm heading the other way next week instead, and I've noticed that there's a West Coast trip planned to depart from York, not long after I arrive there. Hopefully some different locos to photograph.

It is something I have been following for a while and I am pleased to see it come off.
Rather than do a return, I have looked in to a bus there and train back or vice versa.

There was a steam loco in Carlisle last week, pulling a West Coast trip. Didn't get id unfortunately.
Plenty punters taking photos of that and 158849, that I guess was in on a Settle run.

I'm probably going to drive up to Tweedbank, head into Edinburgh for the day and return later on.

While some have attempted to label the project as a colossal waste of money, I'm quite optimistic. I think it will be quite well-used and, hopefully, a case can be made for extending the line further south towards Hawick (and perhaps Carlisle).

No moves associated with the Royal Train (even ECS movements) get shown on RTT, or indeed, any other systems for the reasons Adrian pointed out.
Obviously paths incorporating the likes of 67005/6 in normal use are allowed.

Even drivers don't know what the headcode and working details are until they book on that morning - I assume signallers are the same.
It got stabled right outside the depot I work at a few months ago (on the network, not on our infrastructure), armed guards stay on the train at all times too.

The Dalesman runs twice a week out of Carlisle on Tue and Thu. Could be that?
http://www.westcoastrailways.co.uk/dalesman/dalesman-steam-experience.cfm

Looks like the West Coast run I seen last Thursday is also a regular. It's booked in Tue & Thu this week too. 47760 was on the front, and 57314 on the back when I seen it.

If you do, it's worth waiting round for the loco hauled Fife Circle diagrams. This post should help if you are interested.

The return journey of 68008 will arrive Morpeth at 1633 and Newcastle 1700.

Typical Government. Capping something that's already too high. Restricting it to inflation isn't going to correct all those years of inflation busting price hikes.

On the point of refunds. Two minutes is ridiculous in my opinion. I'd say anything over 30 mins maybe? That shouldn't stop operators from issuing discretionary refunds, say if someones journey is constantly 10 mins late.
