Well it was on the 17/18 till 18:15 at which point I took it from the depot to operate the 18:25 X34

Seen a Enviro 300 on the 22 this morning, the logo suggested it was Stagecoach in Sunderland, it was heading towards Throckly around 11-1130 this morning.

Sorry I meant Enviro 200, it was 100percent on the 22 as well!!
17029 on 52/364 working (currently say outside the High Street office before working it's first 52 at 0850)

If you see it again try to catch the fleet number or registration plate - as I'm keen to know which one it is.

I know, I wish I had of now, I was slightly confused, I was on the Q2 on the other side, thought someone might of also seen it or even got a photo Sad
There's a 56-plate Dart on the 100 today. Couldn't catch a number though, unfortunately.

Two E2's heading to South Shields, ran by 27730 and 27739, were running together (one behind the other) at approximately 16:45 - which is something you don't see every day!

Due to STMBC deciding to place some pointless flower beds at Harton Nook today a lot of buses became late and if not adjusted they would've just got later and later
17032 is on the 8 o'clock (on the Glebe) 38 to Park End Last 2 days at least its been a decker I don't know if this is to do with schools or just coincidence

The board that does that 38 is the one that drops off at half 2 to work a school run. It has been known for the depot to allocated a decker to that board from start of service as a result of that.

Wonder when the contract is up for grabs,SC will put a bid in using gas buses on it.

However, i would rather see GNE run it on a evening

Stagecoach operate a good 39 service on a evening with much better buses than go north east.

They may have better buses on it but GNE should still run it,same as all the other GNE services which are ran by nexus, such as the 17

I must admit I think this too.

It's one of the things that really gripes me about tendered services.

Paired with the image the other company presents whilst working an evening/Sunday variation of that service, it could potentially lead to people making assumptions that it is the same company that they use the rest of the week (I.e. Compass/GNE on service 38).

Not only this, but you've got the issue of ticketing. If I pay whatever price I do for an annual BuzzFare and I live in the heart of Pennywell, I wouldn't expect to walk home from Chester Road each evening simply due to the fact SNE runs the 39 on an evening instead.

I'd be much more content if Nexus and other parties offered to 'fill the gap' in terms of the funding required to make the service commercially viable.

It's daft, all those people spending £££ on a buzzfare/megarider and they cant be used, daft decision should just give the 17/39 etc to GNE since its their services... but like always it comes down to the lowest bid.

Have to agree with this point.

If the service made GNE enough profit, they would run the service (and others such as the 96, M2/3 and 4) into the evening.
Because they don't see enough money in it, the taxpayer steps in.
Throw an operator pass or two into the equation and look what we have?

One of the legacies of de-regulation, that has a negative impact on the passenger and taxpayer.

Only the operators win this one.

Yes, and I've made my views clear on the tendering process recently on other parts of the forum. I firmly believe there should be alternative methods to how it is conducted, taking quality and the regular operator into account (which - as we've established - Nexus does not).

Passengers are the ones who suffer - regardless of whether it's due to Go North East opting out of running evening services as they're not commercially viable or the tendering process meaning that passengers can't use their regular Go North East tickets on the evening services.


There are massive discounts available using the Sunderland Weekly Saver, and as I used to be a regular passenger on service 39, I can tell you now that a fair proportion of the fare-paying passengers actually bought this ticket. The single tickets are also very cheap due to competition by Stagecoach North East. Nobody can say anything about Go North East's tickets being expensive on service 39 - they're cheap as chips.

As for Go North East not caring for their customers enough - it's open for debate. You will have your opinion, and mine clearly differs.
Yes but like all other companies you will find cheap fares in areas of competition. In places where there is minimum competition the fares can and are atrocious. I have no choice but to pay £91.10 each month for a network one as I cannot commit to just one operator but I would love to.
At the end of the day. If a bus company cannot fund a service themselves and an evening service has to be funded by nexus. Then yes any operator is welcome to operate. If your not happy about not being able to use your ticket. Buy a different ticket then.
