Had that once. Went to the doctor - sorted. That kebab caused a great disturbance...

We were there at 9 on boxing day and escaped byb10:30! It was already pretty stressful by then.

So incredibly jolly. They don't say why, do they. It's getting like the early 90s again (set out to go shopping for shoes for bridesmaids for my first wedding in 1993 and had to turn around, as there was a bomb scare, there).

Nee more shoplifting at the Metty then...I Might get shot
Nah seriously, is it not time police in our biggest cities are routinely armed...PSNI are routinely armed...
After Paris, Nice, Berlin, Reina in Istanbul it surely can't do no harm having armed officers visibly on patrol as a deterrent

Sad times.
Although staff have said there's no specific threat, I'm not sure it is any more reassuring to see armed coppers mooching about.
If someone of a terrorist mentallity is so determined to carry something out (inevitably blowing themselves up in the process), they're gonna do it if there's an armed copper, an un-armed one or someone in a garish corporate uniform.
There's that there paradise for them to get to. They don't get stuck with a Streetlite heading there!

It seemed an every day occurance back then. Some sort of coded warning and there was chaos.

Was there once sizable support for the IRA in this area about 20 years ago, due to the fact Martin McGartland* was known to be in the Area...
I remember a bomb scare in Durham in the early-mid 90's, Millburngate was sealed off...
As for the Metro, My folks and Me, got caught in traffic on the Western Bypass after a bomb scare at the MetroCentre
For those who dont know, Martin McGartland was an Informer for Northern Irelands Special Branch who infiltrated the IRA, when he was found out, instead of being tortured and taking a beating, he jumped out a third floor window in a block of Belfast flats...
McGartland was relocated, first to Newcastle's East End or Wallsend and then the Blyth/Whitley Bay area, he was shot multiple times outside his Whitley Bay house

Going back to the armed patrols discussion. I'm all for it! I wouldn't mind at all if every police officer was given a taser. They are so effective in diffusing situations that can spiral out of control.

Me too, i felt safe when i seen them walk past me, i doubt they'll be an attack up here but i'm glad they're providing armed police just incase.
I also think that all police should be giving tasers.

I still believe in routine arming, I may be in a minority here, but give all Policemen and women Glock 17's.
There may not be much chance of an attack up here, but I would rather the police be prepared for it...
A taser would be no good against an armed person, having a side arm may give the police a chance if such a situation occurred

Maybe one to screenshot and save.
Interesting conversation developing here about the 88 being removed from service.
To be honest, they've sat and poured fuel on the fire there. All they had to do is reply to say that it was an answer based on information at the time, and if they want to address the matter further, then write in with a complaint. Getting into a spat over twitter does not get anywhere.

A taser is more of a deterrent than someone completely unarmed. It's bright yellow too so highly visible whereas a side arm may be more stealthy.
IMO giving actual firearms to all officers is a bit overkill and is potentially open to abuse (as much as I'd hate to think it). It's something I've never agreed with America doing.

It was quite a curious response from them and one the twitter bod seemingly took as a personal attack, based on the posts they made.
Quite a back-down at the end too.
Finally moved to Shildon now...
Still lots of bad luck though, the f*****g car engine blew on he A1 near Durham yesterday...
As for buses, it is worse than Murton, theres a bus to Bishop and Darlington about every 20 mins and Weardale Service to Spennymoor once an hour

Yeah, Shildon doesn't have the greatest level of bus services, 1 and 5/5A every half hour and the Weardale 7 to Spennymoor hourly (weekdays only). Tip, if you are getting a bus to Bishop Auckland or Darlington, I suggest getting the 1 as it's faster than the 5A would be.

That's more than we have, here
The 1 and X1 should be 4 times an hour, between them, though the X1 doesn't stop everywhere. They're fairly reliable services, though.

Don't worry about it, I completely understand. Just a small polite nudge.
Looking to go somewhere on Saturday, any ideas?
Not for the buses etc just a day out, sick of the likes of Durham, Metrocentre etc
Why not head down to Hartlepool or teesside? The 1 is a canny run.
