No idea if this will take off, but worth a shot! #NEBpoints available for those who are successful!

Following on from a twitter challenge I saw about railway stations and finding out if there are any that require more than one change for passengers travelling from there to London.

So following mention of it in the GNE service suggestions thread, I wondered if anyone could do the following:

Name a village/town or city in Tyne & Wear where to travel to the Metrocentre, it will take more than one change.
It can be any combination of operators. Doesn't have to be limited to just one.

Will start you off.
Mon-Fri weekdays: Seaburn - Metrocentre.

Will any of you get caught out? I tried a couple of examples and found out it was possible to do with one change!

Couldn't you just get the E1 into Sunderland then get a train to the Metrocentre though?
Could try:
E1 to South Shields
Ferry to North
19 to Northumberland Park
Metro to Central
Train to Metrocentre

Sorry, should have said bus only.
My mistake.

9
X24 or 56
X66
In that case here is one way...
558 to Heworth
93 to QE Hospital
67 to Metrocentre
Just one change, folks!

Hence maximum of two routes can be used Wink

The limiting factor is going to be where the routes that take you directly to the Metrocentre run from, so there's likely to be quite a few places around South Shields and Sunderland that count as there's no route from them to one of the direct Metrocentre services.  North Tyneside, however, will probably feed into the 11 somewhere, so probably fewer places up here.

One change: Houghton - Metrocentre = 36 and X22.

More than one change: Seaburn - Metrocentre = E1, 27 and X66.

So looking for examples like the latter.
Coming back from the metrocentre you can do it with one change
67 to wardley club
558 to seaburn.

Going there's a short walk after getting off the 558 on the felling bypass.

Well spotted!
Didn't think of the 67.
Let's say Hexham to Jedburgh:
885 to Otterburn, 131 to Jedburgh
74 to Ponteland, 131 to Jedburgh
685 to Newcastle, 131 to Jedburgh.

Various ways to do it with just one change.

Yeah. But the challenge was to the Metrocentre from somewhere in T&W

This challenge feels really restricted  Blush

Thats the point Wink

Suppose if it proves popular, there's always the option to extend.
Washington to Silksworth:
4 or X1 to Houghton, 36 to Silksworth
2 to Sunderland, 33 to Silksworth
37 to Doxford Park, 12 to Silksworth
8 to Enterprise Park, 36 to Silksworth

Here are some options to avoid doing the entire route of service 2.
Blackfell - Metrocentre = 85, 56 and X66.

Fatfield - Metrocentre = 4, X1, X66

Penshaw - Metrocentre = 237, X1, X66.

Just realised.
It can be done with one change.
8 and X22!

As for the Penshaw one, depends where abouts in Penshaw.
Possibility of a 78 and X22.
How about a technical bid for Low Moorsley? Possible on a 265/X22 but would mean having to traverse out of Tyne & Wear into County Durham to complete.

To be fair, corrections I have given mean a trip to County Durham.
And by travelling to County Durham, it means an additional cost to the passenger.
Two Zone ticket suddenly becomes three for the sake of convenience.
North Shields to Kingston Park avoiding the 42A.
1. 53 to Killingworth, 62 to Four Lane Ends, 6 to Kingston Park
2. Metro to South Gosforth, Metro to Kingston Park
3. 310 to Newcastle, X47 to Kingston Park.
Ryhope Village?
(28 Oct 2018, 12:31 pm)James101 wrote [ -> ]Ryhope Village?

It's one I thought of initially.
That X22 scuppers things again though. Arriva 22 to Durham, then X22 from there.
Expensive and quite a long trip, but do-able.

Doxford Park?

Doxford Park?

Ah. Again depends where you define Doxford Park, as if you can get on a 20, you can get an X22. I think the answer will be somewhere in Sunderland? Pallion, excluding Metro?

Doxford Park in the Morrison's area, as opposed to Doxford International.

I reckon apart from Blackfell, there will be a few other places in Washington that jump out (excluding the industrial estates). Ayton for example.

A number of places not on the Durham Road, Stockton Road or Hylton Road corridors should have to incur a couple of changes I reckon.
Anywhere on those roads, all have a direct link to Gateshead or Durham.

Lukes Lane possibly?

Sorry to bring an old thread up but if it has to be one change to metrocentre from anywhere in Tyne and Wear then 20 from Sunderland to Durham then X22 from there. Simple.

Where's Durham? Wink

Needs to be more than one change, though! So maybe deepest Ashbrook: 238, 20, X22, assuming passengers aren't up for a longish walk for the arriva 22.
