Has 5293 been officially withdrawn?
5289 is now being stripped of parts at Deptford.

What actually happened to that?
It was last in service on the 26th March, on the 61.

A Citaro, on fire? That sounds very unlikely

Sitting at Riverside. Missing back panels and looks in a bad state
I think 5293 was waiting for a replacement engine, but given its age and the pointlessness of the Sunderland District branding in the first place it's possible that they've shelved that plan and are withdrawing it instead. I think the ex-IOW (5481-7) Citaros had different engines to the refurbished Citaros, or else they could've used one of the engines out of them in the if any of them were salvageable.
Think I missed what happened to the 5481-87 batch! Did they all go for scrap, or were any of them sold on for further use or possibly even retained within GNE?

All of them got stripped for spares for scrap
