Noticed that some changes have been registered today including the X30/X70 group of services
Why does this registration show the X30 twice? Must be an admin oversight I suppose.

301A... was 302 unavailable?

It'll be just that one bus a day from Sunniside, I guess. I don't really understand why it runs either considering the bus has to run from the Metrocentre (where the 1 starts anyway) and run dead to Sunniside.
I'm sure there's some obscure reason.

Smells like a contract of some form.

It's the exact same journey that existed on the 97 when it was that section of the route. Why would they cancel it. Ive been in town that early in the morning to see it come in and people do actually use it and get off. Why would they cut it. What just cause you dont understand why it runs

Who said cancel it?

Yeah that's my thoughts aswell, just don't really see it's purpose though, it's a weird one mind. I could understand if the depot was at Sunniside but it isn't.

Unless it's an early early run to give Sunniside residents an early service before the 6 & X30's/X70's start

Yeah possibly, who knows. It's a bit of an odd one though whatever it is.

Why are u question it now. It's the exact same thing the 97 did. I can't see how this is confusing you at all

Are you just trying to be obtuse for the sake of it here?
Whether it's the 1, 97, 301A, 60, 21 or whatever number is irrelevant. The discussion is why there's one random bus in the morning starting at Sunniside when the route doesn't go anywhere near it and the bus has to run from outside the Metrocentre anyway so there's no operational benefits doing so. I'm sure the section from the Metrocentre to Whickham would appreciate an extra bus in the morning and it's literally not using any resources to do so.

No i ain't. Im just confused on why you are debating this being a journey. If gne didn't see fit to run it it would be withdrawn. Clearly there is a demand for this service. As stated above maybe its to use for other services before they start.
Maybe someone at that part of the route it starts at gets on there and they need that service.
What would a service that time in the morning starting from Metrocentre benefit. Think about it

Tbh I have a feeling it's a tendered run, like someone else said.
There's definitely money going to the route as it's on the freedom requests for subsidies, so wouldn't be surprised if that's it.
More than likely just a legacy route as there's something in the back of my head saying it used to go there a very very long time ago and the one board a day has just existed ever since.
There's quite a few around. The 83A, being another -
https://bustimes.org/services/83a-hewort...-le-street which I thought was finally on the chop but still seems to exist. Really don't get that route as it does a route which doesn't exist and there's no return journey either and the 4 and 8 are running at the times it runs aswell.

I'm sure that it's to give an early bus to the North End of Team Valley for staff starting at 0600 eg Postal Delivery staff

83A is withdrawn. Gct for some reason just haven't took it off the route. Was withdrawn in May changes. I did the 83A once under Percy Main as needed to be in Durham early and there was a fair few people on. But only till the Galleries. Didn't stop once after that till i got off at Chester and I was the only one left on it

I used to get that from Heworth to the Galleries, but the fact is the 4 showed up like 2 minutes after and was pretty much just as quick. It's just the 83A was the first bus that got there after I got off my Metro, same with the other people who got it.

could the bus already say operate a service to Team Valley then commutes over to start at Sunniside anyone checked the current run to see what the bus does first before the start at sunniside ?

Aye that would make sense, guessing it is subsidised then?

Aye that's fair, thought it was gone but just seen the timetable still there. Thought it might have been a last minute change in mind.

I used to use it beyond the Galleries, but it was always hit and miss.
You'd generally have a few cleaners who jumped off at the Arts Centre, but then it was one or two for the Spire Hospital, and sometimes people between Fatfield and the bottom of Vigo Lane. It was only ever me on all the way to Chester-le-Street, but it connected perfectly for the 07.03 21 into Durham.
When I've used it post-Covid, I've generally been the only one on it.
I did suggest in the consultation on cancellation, that they could re-purpose the resource into running the route in reverse. The X1A on a morning shows that there's a market for alternative connections into Newcastle.
Northstar have lost the 643 to Go North East while Go North East have lost the 939 contracts to Northstar. So Northstar now run the 939 fully

Bit of an unnecessarily long-winded statement about it here:
Changes to bus times from 21 July | Northstar
Not sure this is true either about the additonal journey "
additional peak-time journey from Metrocentre ASDA to Sunniside, which Nexus is funding to replace the connection lost due to the withdrawal of Go North East’s commercially-operated service 1 from ASDA on the same date" - as Nexus consulted about adding an extra journey which mentioned nothing about service 1

All timetable changes apart from the 301/A, which has the route change (changes at the metrocentre).

GNE are mad keeping the X30/X70 interworking patterns the way they are if so!
I can get why they probably don't want to risk sending StreetDecks onto some of the steep climbs and would rather keep the power of the E400MMC in Derwentside. Maybe GNE will be better (if rumour is true about the 56) using less leggy B9TLs to address some of the shortfalls for things like the X21 and X10 spares.
But GNE at the moment have to race around for a StreetLite / E200MMC if no E400MMC are available.....and are quite lucky the Euro 5 Cummins engined StreetLites are exempt from the clean air zone!
Surely it would be a hell of a lot easier from an engineering POV if GNE could on all bar x4 boards, swap out for a full height decker.

What is the 301A?
Makes sense to kill off the 1 to Asda, with the 643 providing that link, and the 6/7, 10/10A/10B, 47, 643 and 941 at the bottom of the car park.
Surprised and disappointed to see Go North East awarded the 643 instead of Northstar. Just went on the Northstar 643 very recently, and it was amazing.
With the 939 going the other way, from Go North East to Northstar, I was thinking, are there any operator changes on the 941 next month? JH got the afternoon contact in September, but I can't remember about the morning contract, and I'm sure Go North East got it from Weardale in the summer of 2022.

As Aaron21 said, it's just the current morning 1 that runs from Sunniside. Pointless renumbering it to the 301A tbqh, it runs perfectly fine as of now as the 1 as it's only one trip one way.
And, I'd like to say I'm suprised they are losing the 643 to GNE. It's what GNE do best, dump services for other operators to pick up and then getting them back again later. My ALX trip on the 643 was amazing too.
I wouldn't be suprised if they're doing it purely cos it's Dan who owns NS. And although GNE have the full right to take it back, it still seems abit snakey doing that to a newish small independant operator.

To be fair, it's just lowest bidder nothing more. GNE is always going to have an advantage their as their depot is basically at the end of the route compared to the Northstar who have dead run costs to account for.
I guess last time round they just took the piss with their bid and Northstar undercut them, as they no doubt expected little competition so suppose there's some benefits there (if it's the case).

I find it hard to believe the service is ‘amazing’ and I doubt most passengers will notice or even care that Go North East are operating it.

Judging by Facebook comments. It seems a few people who use the service ain't happy with GNE. I can understand why passengers would be unhappy if they got a reliable service for a year and going back to the same company who ran it as a mess the first time
