The contracts are for a one year period requiring low floor easy access vehicles to PSVAR standard with Euro 4 compliance.
Capacity based on a minimum of 44, 60 & 84 depending on route.
No variations will be accepted.
That's a lot services, and very early.
I have no idea which company runs each school service, do hope we see the independent companies gain most of it.
Any idea when we will find out?

Tenders have to be with Nexus by 22/03/2017 so we should see some feedback around Easter time.
With the requirement for a minimum of Euro 4 this might put some independent operators at a disadvantage unless they invest in newer vehicles or look at the feasibility of fitting emission reduction devices.

Think it might be workers services too - are workers services tied in with schools?

The Misc workings do include some workers services. The invitation to tender for the Misc workings states that some workers services are included but the requirement is predominantly for Schools Services.

Thanks for that, I do wonder how much money independents make of scholars because they only run the buses for an hour or two a day in most cases so I'm just thinking is it really worth it. E.g companies like Stanley Travel who would obviously have to pay for the place they keep their buses in Byker.
I'm not sure if you do, but do you have a list of works services this applies too?

That's why they tend to run older vehicles, to help make this sort of work pay.
Let's not forget Nightingales, GCT and Kingsleys also run some of the school work in Nexus land

Any updates on these?

I believe it was announced today that Go North East has been awarded with the contract for all of those tenders, apart from the 592. The 592 has been retained by Gateshead Central Taxis.
Of course, Stagecoach may wish to take on the contract for service 8 commercially (or at least part-commercial) in order to prevent Go North East from infiltrating into the South Hylton area.

Oh cool, be weird seeing "Go North East" run around Barnes etc... i wonder if Stagecoach will decide to run it commercially or part-commercial, be interesting to see what happens.
The 8, will probables be a Solo, if Stagecoach decide not to run it commercially or part-commercial.

I think this will also be highly confusing for the current service 8 operated by go north east in the same local area.

The only time the Go North East 8 will cross routes with the contract 8 is on Green Terrence and on Chester road when it's the 8A, which is only a few times, however one of the problems could be that people can't use their Stagecoach Megarider's on the 8 when Go North East start to run it... hopefully they can.
Stagecoach might even decide to run it part commercial or fully commercial yet.

Isn't that a problem with every Nexus secured service when it changes operators? Unlikely that they will do one thing and do another for everything else.
Stagecoach operated secured evening service 39 while GNE operated the commercial daytime service. If GNE does the evening 8 secured then if passengers are not happy then there can vent there anger to stagecoach as there want to put profit before passengers.

Guessing they are running it commercial then?

What makes you think that?
The revised registration is just "City Centre to South Hylton" so the Docks section definitely not staying with Stagecoach.

For just over £1 extra weekly ticket passengers can buy a SmartZone ticket, travel on Arriva, Stagecoach and Go North East in Sunderland.

Didn't even notice that, i doubt many people use the Sunderland to docks section on a evening and Sundays anyway, probables all OAP's.
Wonder if "Go North East" will just run the service between Sunderland and the docks.
I buy the smartzone pass anyway, much better than the megarider.
Durham County Council Bus Service Tenders are up for renewal to start the end Of October.
The County is hoping for a like for like so no change with the tenders.

I think it would be a good interoworking with the 516 as it's practically a loop.

Looks like it is a replacement for the evening services that Stagecoach plan to withdraw but it would be good to see the bus allocated to the 516 remain in South Shields at the end of 516 duties and pick up on the 12.
