Is the 9 still running? I haven't seen it recently
Yup 9 is still running although for some reason the service doesn't seem to show up on many timetable sources even before we went into lockdown.
From today (August 2nd) for a period of two weeks Cabin Gate Crossroads will be closed to allow for emergency gas repairs, service 9 is being diverted via Escomb Road, Lambton Drive, Woodhouse Lane, Proudfoot Drive and Abbey Road then re-joiming the route at Walting Road (The Aclet).
Weardale will also be running a shuttle service between the Bus Station and Cockton Hill Road on behalf of Durham County Council
Weardale have taken over the 794, 933 and 941 from today. I will be going to see the 941 on it's afternoon run today.
I went to see the afternoon 941 at Denton Burn, it was a no show! Not impressed as I wanted to video it on it's first day in service! Thanks Weardale! GNE operated it so much better!

isaw a weardale bus on Old Druham road yesterday heading toward wreckenton. Had 101 stanhope on destination blind
Noticed a Weardale bus driving through Swalwell today with 'Merry Christmas' on the destination blind. It's a bit early for that don't you think!
Normally i would agree but not this year!
I just noticed when driving past what looks like a GCT Grey/Red solo outside the Crook depot.
Were my eyes deceiving me?

It is, one landed at Crook depot on Tuesday I believe, unsure if it will see service at Weardale or not.
GCT are in the process of offloading the 64 plate Solo SRs.
Another Sprinter added to the fleet is BU64MWM (re-registered to M6WMS):

Weardale have the X6 & X6A return on the 14th August
Large Optare Solo SR SB10BUS (Also Ex SB Travel / Scarlet Band) has been sold to A2B Travel in Cambridgeshire and is expected to make an appearence at Showbus 2021.
Are Weardale going to need any new buses for the Clean Air Zone? Currently only the 794 and 941 works buses going into Newcastle.
How long has Weardale operated the 763/764/773? Why are these services not operated by Go North East? Did another operator have any of these services previously?

The 763/764/773 are Durham County Council services. Go North East don't operate them because they either haven't bid for them or Weardale have a cheaper bid. Weardale have had them since at least 2008 according to VOSA but possibly longer.

Was operated by Classic Buses prior to that going off a quick Flickr search.
763 is a more recent introduction.
There's also the commercial service 765 between Crook and Consett at the start and end of the day (M-F)

I went from Consett Bus Station to Genises Way (Tesco) on the 763 yesterday and wondered if there was any point in the service (it takes you there, but not back unless you catch the next one back) so is the 763 just a cheaper alternative to GNE if passengers don't need a day ticket? For a minute I thought maybe it was a free shuttle for elderly people to get to and from Tesco and the other shops in the surrounding area.

It's purpose is to serve the (relatively) new estate behind the Tesco rather than as an alternative service for passengers from the town centre to Tesco.

Can the passengers not get a GNE bus just the same? Fair enough, I thought it had to have a purpose and I couldn't work out what it was. Now I know.

The 763 actually goes into the estate serving a stop at St James Court which GNE (or any other bus service for that matter) does not serve. Admittedly only an 8 minute walk to Tesco for a GNE service but presumably the 763 is aimed at those with reduced mobility.

I got off at Tesco so I could get a bus from there back into Consett town centre, and didn't know where St James Court was. Transport links for those with reduced mobility are vital, and ideally should be free to use for those passengers for the purpose of inclusion. The 763/764/773 are nice little buses/services, the 763 just struck me as rather short, and I couldn't understand its purpose (hence asking the question). Weardale (in partnership with Durham Council, maybe could put together a nice little network of services, the 763 for example doesn't run enough really and could run further).

So would that mean a new bus would be required for the X6? Are Weardale modifying their fleet to be Euro 6? I guess just one bus for the 794/941/X6 would need to be Euro 6?

Interestingly, just noticed on VOSA today the 765 has been registered from 20th January and according to that it is actually supported by subsidy.
Apparently the 941 goes to Stanhope Street, and no longer goes into Newcastle Centre even though its meant to go to Newgate Street. The bus stop timetables say Newgate Street. Weardale or Nexus to blame?
Weardale will gain operation of Bishop Auckland services 81 & 89 from Scarlet Band from Monday (June 13th), times and route are unchanged, however the fares will be revised to be more in line with other operators.
