RE: Wrestling - MrFozz - 28 May 2015 (28 May 2015, 10:10 am)MurdnunoC I think it would be fair to say that's always been the case.I seem to remember Bischoff once saying he led a consortium that tried to buy WCW and he was told there would not be a TV Deal and he said words to the effect of 'Without TV it wasn't worth 25 cents' I guess that goes along with what your saying. Is Wrestling at a point now where it is WWE and nobody else will get a sniff because they can't compete with Vinny Mc's production values nor have the clout he has RE: Wrestling - MurdnunoC - 28 May 2015 (28 May 2015, 10:44 am)MrFozz I seem to remember Bischoff once saying he led a consortium that tried to buy WCW and he was told there would not be a TV Deal and he said words to the effect of 'Without TV it wasn't worth 25 cents' But lets not forget that Vince McMahon eventually bought WCW for the princely sum, albeit reduced, of $3.5m. Even without television, WCW was still worth something and I think Bischoff (and Fusient Media) were perhaps a bit short-sighted not to attempt to renegotiate the price and terms of their initial deal. In 2001, many wrestlers were still waiting for their Time Warner contracts to expire. This included Hogan, Sting, Goldberg, Rey Mysterio, Scott Steiner and Ric Flair to name but a few. I firmly believe a television deal could have been struck with another network with that amount of star-power readily available. Hell, TNA achieved a national television deal with a lot less. Even if TNA ceased tomorrow, I think they've done enough to create a brand which is recognisable to most wrestling fans. It's just unfortunate that TNA demonstrate an inability to create new stars. Relying on disgraced, discarded, released or failed ex-WWE competitors is certainly not the answer as it creates the image of a third-rate promotion of wresters who couldn't cut it in the big leagues. However stars can be created if a wrestlers reputation is somewhat untarnished by past indiscretions. This, of course, takes patience and a bit of long-term planning. The trouble with TNA management is that they're always on the look out for a short-term fix which, ultimately, undermines and destroys any previous effort. Is Wrestling at a point now where it is WWE and nobody else will get a sniff because they can't compete with Vinny Mc's production values nor have the clout he has As I said above, if a promoter is in it for the long-haul over a 15-20 period, and their business plan reflects this, then perhaps something can be achieved. Television isn't everything; learn to walk before you try and run. RE: Wrestling - Malarkey - 28 May 2015 Has anyone watched this? ESPN: NXT Behind The Curtain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3MFI21wqss Wrestling - MrFozz - 28 May 2015 Anyone know when the jerry Lawler documentary is going onto WWE network??? RE: Wrestling - MurdnunoC - 30 May 2015 It's always funny watching over-zealous fans getting carried away and interfering in wrestling matches. Here's a video, made by same guy who produces Botchamania, dedicated to those who just can't keep their emotions or stupidity in check. My favourite ring announcer....Joel Gertner. Loads of good chat-up lines here to use with the ladies. Sadly, I lacked the verbal delivery skills necessary for them to work for me My own personal favourite starts at 3:25. A couple of friends of mine knew an old tag-team partner of his from his time in the IWF. Apparently the tag-team partner, Hot Ed, was from Derwentside. His old IWF bio - long since vanished into the ether - also listed Rowlands Gill as his home town. Of course, as with a lot of things in wrestling, his hometown could have been worked although I don't understand the importance of stating one over the other. Hope they bring back War Games in his memory. It was perhaps the best kind of match he ever created. RE: Wrestling - MrFozz - 11 Jun 2015 (11 Jun 2015, 6:57 pm)MurdnunoC Very sad. Agreed Adam, very sad indeed...From what I have tried to find out, seems like he took a fall at home, EMTs were called and he died of Kidney failure at hospital...He took bumps and falls for like 40-50 years in the ring, then seemingly dies suddenly after a fall at home Wrestling has lost one of the true great wrestling greats...Would it be fair to say, that, in my opinion Dusty was one of the finest ever talkers in Wrestling...Some of the lines he come up with were great 'I've wined and kings and Queens...I've slept in alleys and dined on pork and beans' is one that instantly sticks out Thoughts and prayers go out his family... I am actually shocked to hear that and genuinely sad and upset [LOUDLY CRYING FACE][LOUDLY CRYING FACE][LOUDLY CRYING FACE][LOUDLY CRYING FACE][LOUDLY CRYING FACE] R.I.P Dream |
