Go North East: 2019/2020 Financial Year Order Predictions
(07 Sep 2019, 12:35 pm)streetdeckfan I'll be very surprised if they're not Streetdecks. The question for me would be whether they go with the 4 or 6 cylinder.
The reason I think that is because Martijn said the order will be finalised in the coming months, and they have one of the 6 cylinders on the way.
The timing makes me think they're waiting to try it out before ordering for the X1
Yes I agree with streetdecks. Cant see fully electric DD due to the nature of the route. Also Euro 6 will still comply with the Newcastle CAZ
But I wonder if they plan to do the rebrand of the 4 when deckers arrive in March...

(07 Sep 2019, 1:00 pm)MichaelI wouldn't say they need a repaint, they can easily get another decade out of it, just ask Arriva!
Most the buses which arrived in 2013 need a repaint (as new).
Although, i haven't seen or used the Connections 4 buses since i left Usworth college (2015) so can't say how the paintwork is looking.

Seriously though, with the way GNE is going at the minute, I have the feeling everything is going to be rebranded soon enough

(07 Sep 2019, 1:12 pm)Michael That's true but the FAB 56 deckers need a repaint... i agree, that most routes will receive a rebrand soon enough though
Hopefully some pointless brands are dropped, think we won't see many repaints of current buses until the refurbishment of the Cobalts are done and all of the new buses are in service.
Believe MG said versas would be next for refurb...and moved from frontline services

(07 Sep 2019, 1:32 pm)MichaelI'd like to see electrics on the Quaylink. If anything, it would look bad in them if they weren't
Aye he did, he mentioned the Quaylink versa's in a twitter post as an answer from someones question about new buses on the Quaylink... although he didn't say what year Versa's they would be.
New buses for the Quaylink then?

(07 Sep 2019, 1:42 pm)JP6004Why not both? I quite liked the E200EV they had a while back!
Or maybe E200. With the trouble with optare, I wouldn't be surprised if the solos eventually got replaced with SWB E200s

Quite possibly. Wouldn't be surprised if the quaylinks and 58 etc aren't part of the 2020/21 year order. But we will see what else is ordered for this year. Maybe new for X84/85 then Xlines will encompass all Express services, with no doubt streetlites getting xlines treatment

(07 Sep 2019, 1:50 pm)JP6004Going off the current X-Lines buses, the X84/85 and Streetlites already meet the X-Lines spec, so it would just be a case of repainting into X-Lines livery

(07 Sep 2019, 1:52 pm)MichaelEven as someone who dislikes ADL, I thought the E200EV was far better than the Yutong they had on the X66. Unusually for an ADL product, it felt refined
I would say Yutong's for the Quaylink, if they're successful on the 53/54, and they'll already have the start for the charging points at Riverside.

X84/85 aren't euro 6. Also they over 12yrs old. X66 streetlies are 4yrs old and wont enter CAZ

(28 Sep 2019, 11:41 am)Michael With Wrightbus collapsing, i wonder if GNE will turn to ADL for their new buses for the "Red Arrows" and get E400MMC's?.. i just hope they hadn't put that order in for the X1!
Martijn seems to have been praising the MetroDecker on Twitter lately so they could be eyeing them up, but then again he said there are no more demos coming up north any times soon.
I think if Wrightbus gets saved, they'll definitely go back to ordering the StreetDeck because it's arguably the better decker on the market

Mechanically, the ADL E400MC is a superior product. Arriva's classic bodied ZF examples (barring the ones that Blyth & Redcar had anything to do with) have been good and even more so 7522-7540.
Can't comment on 7541-52 as they're voith examples but I'd imagine the E400MMC would serve GNE very well. My argument about the StreetDecks is that although the 67 plates have been good, they were purchased for the correct type of route and I know that 6333 has been helping out on the X21 but that's only been a recent arrangement (less than a year but correct me if I'm wrong).
I can't see the StreetDecks being suited to some of the routes they'll be going on particularly the X47/X70/X71
