I'm not sure about MCW, but I remember the Bristol VRs having 3 single seats on the upstairs front near side and a treble front seat on the off side in  front of the stairwell

Some of the early mk2's had a single seat upstairs, behind the stairs.

Single Side Seat Upstairs on MCW Metrobus Mk2 - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...8150435521

Also found on the Arriva Lowlanders - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...2856913276

Wilts and Dorset had them on their High Floor Spectras - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...8245445433
The Spectras GNE operated also had a side seat upstairs, but was positioned between the front pair of seats on the offside and the staircase, I believe this was due to the design of the seat used on them.

(24 Jun 2023, 8:08 am)Unber43 https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...2011343586 you could actually still sit like this with ANE in their Vykings that they had at Durham

https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...0686527466 that was on the first olypians e.g 3926

I know you can sit backwards and sideways on various vehicles, but I'm on about the whole interior layout in general is messy. Also Arriva had Lowlanders (DAF Chassis), not Vykings (Volvo Chassis).

I knew something had them on that I used to use, couldn't think what it was but that's the answer. Used to like that as it was a foot rest for the Urban 90's which made them slightly more bearable.

Least they had the nice Voice retarder that used to have a nice sound - much nicer than the equivilant Enviro's nowadays similar with the Commanders. It's a shame we didn't get more of both.

I've always found the 1-2 seating configuration towards the front of Arriva Pulsars 1513-1523 to be rather unusual. I think the HW07 Citaros that GNE used to have had a similar seating configuration.

Same with the side facing seats over the rear wheel arches that Arriva's ex-London DAF ALX400s had (as well as the Y-reg Lowlanders to a lesser extent).

The stairs being in the middle were the bigger problem, design flaw imo as it meant boarding was horribly long. Was a problem in London aswell since everyone boards the bus at the front. It was scrapped in the next batch of them and it gave a right weird layout. They only seated 17 people downstairs in their original layout because of it and were dark imo.

Believe the earliest version of GoAhead's Presidents were the same which got scrapped pretty fast aswell.

Didn't the Darts just have Civic V3's like everything else bar 1799 which had Urban 90's. The ones beforehand having old bench seating - they must've been some of the last buses in the country to get them aswell as they were pretty much out then.

Edit: Just checked and it appears the W Reg ones, 1751 - 1757 had them aswell, foul seats. They weren't based at Blyth so never got them so be how I missed them.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/emdjt42/5716410208 - These things? Horrid things, don't know why anyone would order them anywhere but that's what some darts had.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MOVYEYFn5Vc/TQ...CF0754.JPG - The Ciclo's are just as bad, they're used on the back of DB300's at Blyth downstairs and above the wheel arch. Might aswell be sitting on plastic.

I haven't been on them but yeah they are I believe. Everything in London got them around 2009/10 until they changed their mind as people were moaning. They're vandal proof supposedly, but I guess if you have nothing to burn they always will be.

Why is it a waste of public money?

The repainting and refurbishment is a requirement of the BEE network contract, contract conditions set by a public body and the Mayor.
