I like to play a little game with myself trying to guess when the diesel engine is going to kick in

(22 Jun 2023, 10:03 pm)Storx The Hybrids are awful, they feel like they lose power for a second when they change across to the stage they don't do anything. Absolutely horrid when they used to do it on the Coast Road not to mention they have a messy layout at the back downstairs.

(22 Jun 2023, 10:19 pm)L469 YVK They were awful especially when the 308 was a PVR of 9x and a 2hr15m round trip. Bet there were some excited Blyth drivers when a DB300 pulled in ready to takeover for the next trip!
(23 Jun 2023, 9:31 am)Rob44 worse layout has to be those single decker mercs. who put a luggage rack at the back of a bus for gods sake???!!!

(23 Jun 2023, 9:52 am)Storx Aye the timetable was stupid then though mind.
Aye give you that the mercs are bad mind, especially the ones with the two seats at different heights.
I totally forgot about the disabled bay being being the front row of seats aswell on the Hybrids. The whole layout is illogical, I feel sorry for pensioners who struggle to walk who use them as there's only 6 seats on the low floor section from what I can remember, the rest being up steps. The 4 bay on the right at the back is particularly hairy going around bends as it's hard to balance and there's no grab rail / seat to hold onto. Hated them personally and were glad they went from up here.

(23 Jun 2023, 9:58 am)streetdeckfan Best part of the hybrids are the 2 seats at the bottom of the stairs.
You get to be a nosy bugger and find out where everyone is going, and you don't have to sit near anyone else!

(23 Jun 2023, 10:05 am)Storx Ha, see I used to hate them, felt like you were just in the middle of everyone. Reminds me of the most pointless seat behind the driver on 7501 - 7513 at Arriva, never really did get the point in that. Did anyone else actually order one of them, I can't think of any other examples about. Gimmick at it's finest.Think some London examples got them, didn't seem to last long especially once low height examples started becoming more wide spread within Arriva & Stagecoach.

Seat under the stairs were standard on full height Enviro 400 with Straight staircases.
You can still get them with seats under the stairs, usually on the BYD / ADL Enviro 400EV City vehicles.

And going back to the 80s - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...2011343586
And with Nottingham City Transport own designs, they tried to fit seats in any direction possible.

In some European countries you had to contend with this...

I also travelled on a bus from Cyprus at the South Yorkshire Bus Musuem which had an interior with seats in the middle where the central aisle would be....

IIRC it was 2+2 plastic seating on the lower level, then a more bulky fabric affair in a 2+3 layout.
A pic from an example belonging to Bains Coaches (can't remember the layout of seats on this one especially as it was during COVID and the rear of the bus was restricted to school/college students.
The school spec BMC Condors that were used on scholars in West Yorkshire are certainly an odd experience as a passenger: https://flic.kr/p/2kRS4oh
The Versas Borders Buses and PCL Travel got for Wooler contracts had a slightly odd layout too.
Arriva North East's Temsa Avenue's are certainly up there too, for this country at least.

(23 Jun 2023, 8:06 pm)Andreos1 That's ringing bells.I think the layout varied slightly on theirs from one example to another going off what someone was telling me at time, was the only one I rode with them and that Bains example was I think the other other one I've been on (that afternoon with Bains when they still went into Aberdeen was interesting, went from a BMC Falcon: https://flic.kr/p/2jJRWuG - to a King Long: https://flic.kr/p/2jJVwzn - to a Merc Breadvan... thing?!: https://flic.kr/p/2jJVw3q)
That picture of the Condor is very similar to the Brylaine examples. Just has a consistent pattern/moquette.

I remember travelling on that King Long from Aberdeen to Dyce, I was much bemused by them using 2 window panes to replace 1 window. Oddly their coach fleet is in much better condition, seems the bus stuff was an afterthought.
The 2+2 seating in the front of the vehicle and 3+2 towards the rear used to be quite common on mid engined single deckers until the mid 90s.
Preserved Dennis Javelin F135SPX shows an example of it. https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...2930558611
