A year or so ago, there was a guy in London who ran between tube stations. He jumped off a tube and ran to the next station, getting on the same tube he had got off just moments earlier.

There's a video of a guy doing the same between Illford Road and South Gosforth.
It took 4 attempts, but he did it.

Dunno why, but after seeing the video it just doesn't seem as dramatic.
From "Sort the metro" page:

For anyone traveling between Pelaw and South Hylton, there are currently delays up to approximately 20 minutes due to Signalling Problems at East Boldon.

It is affecting the level crossing barriers too causing services 5 and 50A to be diverted.

The ironic thing, there, is that it would have been a lot faster for people travelling to Sunderland on Thursday to travel via either CLS or Washington, than wait for buses to Heworth then hope for some luck from there. Someone would have needed to direct them from market street to eldon square bus station, though.

I'm surprised Northern services havent been pushed more for journeys to/from Heworth and Sunderland. Ticket acceptance is mutual on a range of tickets already and although some services are often busy at is is, it would have taken the strain off the hired in buses.
Sad news on the metro tonight.. Post on the "sort the metro out" Facebook page.

It has been confirmed (4 minutes ago) that a train travelling between Heworth and Felling has hit a person. Service is suspended between Gateshead Stadium and Pelaw to allow the Emergency Services a safe working area.

Thoughts go out to all involved including the Driver, Public on the train and Emergency Service Personnel.

If you intend to travel between these areas I would suggest making alternative arrangements, Busses 27,57,58 & 93 accepting metro tickets between Pelaw and Gateshead.

I will update as and when I get suitable information.

Update from Tyne and Wear Metro..

Services have been suspended Gateshead Stadium - Pelaw due to a police incident.  Ticket acceptance on buses 27, 57, 58, 93 and we have requested for 2 replacement buses.

=(, just reading the Chronicle, sad news for his family, thinking of them, same as the driver and the passengers who were on the train at the time. =(
Event on in North Shields, with a mockup of the Metro in the mid-80's and layouts of various other locations from across the North East.

There are no trains running between North Shields and Wallsend in both directions until further notice . This is due to a vehicle hitting a Metro bridge.

Go North East are accepting Metro tickets in the affected area on bus services 1 & 17 between Wallsend and North Shields.
We will update you as soon as we have more information.

NEXUS are up to date with services then?
This is new:

Due to driver resource issues some services will be cancelled at certain times today, however we are still running a frequent service.
No service on Metro between South Hylton and Park Lane

At 11:45 we will close the line between Brockley Whins and East Boldon in both direction. There will be a replacement bus service running between Heworth and East Boldon, and staff at either end to assist. The estimated time given will be up to 1 hour.

If you need to know where to find your replacement bus stop, in the station there will be a transfer map. Also in our timetable section of our website there is onward travel information.
