I kind've think they just have no clue, it needs more funding, or REPLACING. They may as well rip it all up and turn it into bus super highways

That's cause a few problems for the trains to Sunderland, like.

Is the increase not due to people buying a ticket rather than jumping the metro since the barriers were installed?

Also numbers have increased from 58 to 62 people per carriage. This not due to the amount of failed trains  Tongue

I made the same point last year (which was reporting on the first year of barrier operation).

They don't exist - you need a 3 zone DaySaver, priced at £4.80.

Aye, they like coming up with the same ideas.
To be fair, by doing it, it keeps things in the public domain a bit.
I often wonder if there is a little bit of elbow nudging too. Whichever government gives the money that leads to a new and upgraded system, may just get a few votes out of it too.

A Wearside MP has written to new Transport Secretary Chris Grayling, urging him to support plans to extend the Metro.

Washington and Sunderland West Sharon Hodgson is a long-time advocate of using the old Leamside Line to extend the system to Washington.

Sharon Hodgson calling for the Metro to being extended, comes around as regular as Christmas. You can guarantee it to crop up on an annual basis.

with all this talk about expansion of the metro's I would of thought that they would have waited until they can get the current metro lines sorted as they are not in the great of states

Nothing wrong with the metro lines, It's the reliability of the Trains that's the issue, This will be resolved when the new fleet arrive in the next few years.

There does seem to be regular issues on the overhead power lines, though, especially on the stretch between Pelaw and Sunderland.

Metro/Nexus can't really do anything about that section of line because it owned by Network Rail

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - biglugs@yahoo.com - 05 Aug 2016

4083 is out with 4040 on 107 on the green line

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro - Michael - 07 Aug 2016

No service between South Hylton and Sunderland:

Tyne and Wear Metro

I've had a couple of questions about the service on the green line. Just to let you all know, the suspension is between Sunderland - South Hylton, between Sunderland - Airport is up and running, however there may be minor delays.
Sorry that I hadn't made it too clear - I hope this helps.

Update:

Tyne and Wear Metro

I'm about to make an update on it - it was due to finish at 9:30, but Network Rail has advised that it has proved a lot more problematic than initially thought. We are looking at ordering 2 replacement buses.

Two replacement buses will be available between Sunderland and South Hylton. They will start at Sunderland at 10:10 and 10:20. These will be the replacement 900 buses. Taxis will continue until after the buses have started running.
Once we have an update from Network Rail I will let you know. Sorry for the delays this has caused, and thank you all for your continued patience and understanding.
