what if........ GNE ordered 14 New Routemasters for the 21, +2 to replace the B7s  and the B5s move to the 20/20A and the B7s move to a spare role replacing 2 more tridents or B7s

I think New routmasters would cope very well with the 21, not sure about the fast section to Durham from Chester though
anyone fancy doing 55 in a NBFL?!
Its something different I guess!         I wonder what it would look like in the Angel colours?

If anything happens to 6001-6007, they'll be straight to Crook for the Pronto, 6049  would act as a TTX spare allowing 6084 to go silver and the rest fufilling spare roles around the fleet.

It's not just that. It's over 350k for a bus that can't be used with the infrastructure up here.

I recall when the Vykings were on the 21, GNE had to put a lot of notices and guidance out around the use of dual door operation. It got quite confusing for passengers, because there were a number of stops along the route, that you'd be opening the rear doors onto railings or the glass front of a bus shelter.

It'd be a nice thought to have such vehicles up here one day, but until the combined authority make a commitment to ensure the infrastructure is suitable, then I can't see the operators making a commitment on them.

Its like when GNE wanted to put the ex London bendies on the 56... the route and area's wasn't suitable due to the roads being to small etc.

They were never suitable for the 58 tbh! That's' when they managed to make their way on to the 58 mind... Tongue

It was a nightmare at parts of Felling and Heworth, trying to navigate round tight corners, with idiots double parked too close to a junction.

Only route they're suitable to up here is the X66.

How about.....
Washington service 88/A
9x Wright Streetlite Micro Hybrid +4 spare ( 3 for allocation to service 4 allowing extension to Newcastle Eldon Square 1 allocated 82/83/85/86 on weekdays X88 Saturday/Sunday
or 88/A emergency ) all can be fitted with Flyweel for added fuel efficiency

All have esteban high back seats, E leather ,Wifi, Usb, and Plugs and Next Stop Announcements for main services at Washington ( 88/A 4  X1/A )

Optare versas will transfer to services 82/83/85/86 with the solars dropping to a spare role, one or two mybe transfer out to replace older vehicles.

maybe a new brand for the 82/83/85/86, let me know what you think.

I would suggest 30 Enviro 400MMCs

20 double decks for Prince Bishops (plus 2 red spares)
7 double decks for "Angel Express" (ex-Pronto) ( plus 1 red spare)

Solars off Prince Bishops to replace Renowns, including on Fab 57.

Maybe some Solo SRs for North Tyne Links and Tynedale Links.

X88 wouldn't cope with streetlites

Theres no way that service 4 would be extended to Newcastle, passengers with network tickets would get the metro, others can transfer onto other GNE bus services to Gateshead or Newcastle. passengers on service 4 can get off at galleries and get service X1 or get off at concord and get service 56
