(21 Mar 2015, 9:05 pm)citaro5284 Doubt it will be a brand new bus, maybe a Saltwell Park one if a Streetlite is going.

Well, I just though I'd ask on the forum, drivers aren't always the most reliable for information Wink
On another note, do you think I'd be allowed to go along just to have a look at the bus they have? Bearing in mind I'm only 14, so not exactly their ideal recruit Big Grin

There's nowt stopping you really, because of where they're holding it. But worth baring in mind that their goal for the day is to recruit new drivers, rather than to appease enthusiasts.

Of course I wouldn't get in the way, but if they get desperate for drivers, I'm always here (I'll just make sure to grow my moustache to look a bit older) Big Grin

Well if they had a Citaro there all the recruits would be very enthusiastic but then when they started service they would  be disappointed and realise the harsh reality of streetlights. At least by sending a streetlite they would let people know what they getting into Big Grin

If GNE are wise, they will encourage youngsters (although maybe not to drive . . . ).

Many people are 'fired' by their early enthusiasm to develop this into a subsequent career.

We hear of people who sat in an aircraft when very young and this lead to them becoming a pilot later on.

GNE (and other operators) will always need drivers (at least until we get buses that drive themselves), so it makes sense to encourage youngsters - though not to the extent that the day turns into a free-for all for kids.

Polite recognition of the interest shown by those as yet too young to drive (a bus) would be my approach, but not preventing any genuine interest from would-be drivers who are old enough.

You can hold a Passenger-Carrying Vehicle (PCV) licence to drive a bus at the age of 18. At Arriva we tend to select people to train as bus drivers who are 21 or older, and who have held a car driver's licence for at least 12 months. In London, where the driving environment is more challenging, we ask for 2 years experience.

Nah. I was going to, but decided not to in the end. What's been happening, and what vehicle(s) have they brought?

Wright Streetlite DF/Wright Streetlite Micro-Hybrid 5391 (NK15 EMV) is still yet to be delivered, but I've updated our fleet lists to reflect the arrival of the four new X66 vehicles as it should arrive early next week amongst the examples for the 8/78.

Are all the buses there to be driven? Might have a pop along if I can have a drive of a B9.

No, they're Euro 5.

Wrightbus offer both Euro 5 and Euro 6 at the moment, though the latter is more expensive which is why a large number of operators are still opting for Euro 5. The majority of Arriva UK's 50 new Streetlites which will be delivered over spring will be Euro 5, too.

Angel, Saltwll Park, Citylink and 6084 (not 6094 as I previously stated) are currently being used. As i don't know what a B9 is, I couldn't tell you if it's being used.

6084 is a Volvo B9TL. You had a Volvo B5LH - which is pretty similar in terms of cab layout etc.

Have they said why they're so keen to recruit a massive number of drivers?
Is it down to turnover/natural wastage, existing staff being stretched to the limit or is this the start of a massive growth in services and routes?
Not sure why they would need such a big event, for any other reasons other than the ones above.

Might just be looking for younger employees. Chances are they are just looking for people to replace the older drivers in years to come.
