We still have a yellow warning which has been in place since yesterday morning. I went out to stock up on store cupboard supplies after I got it and the roads and local shops were mad busy, so I can't have been the only one!

Husband was woken in the night by something going bang in the wind and our guttering sounded like a drum solo at 8am so I'm baffled at people being surprised by this.

Is this on parr or worse than the storm back in November

I'm not sure it's as bad, but seems worse as it's during the day. A lot of things that are breaking today were probably heavily damaged during Arwen (like my fence).

RE: Storm Delays - BusLoverMum - 29 Jan 2022

The winds have been almost as bad but not for as long. During Arwen it was pretty relentless for almost 24 hours while this one had a small but not so intense peak. Last night and the big, destructive, 4 hour peak, today. There's another smaller peak for overnight Sunday into Monday that will probably shake loose anything that hasn't quite snapped or fallen yet.

Oh so someone has left the ticket machine on the side of the road for a extra 4 hours?

That was a swine storm Arwen, people are still recovering in some places, chopping trees, replacing fences (which arent cheap at all)

Or if you apply some small amount of logic, the bus has likely been parked up in a safe place where it became stuck and will be picked up later on.

When driver resources are already tight, having a driver sit with a vehicle for hours on end isn't exactly the best use of the drivers you do have available.

Never said the driver, I said '5332' has been stuck for nearly 8 hours now, not the driver, I did previously say maybe GNE got a van to go and collect them

"Oh so someone has left the ticket machine on the side of the road for a extra 4 hours?".

It's also very probably not "stuck", just parked up.

I'd say locally today was as bad as Arwen but didn't last as long. There's been some substantial damage on the coast again pretty much from Sunderland up. It's been pretty bad here today with gusts of 75 mph. I know half my village has been without electric today and the cables were down in Blyth over the main road towards South Beach, with a lorry overturned on the A19 aswell. It just didn't bring as much damage to trees etc as it wasn't from the unusual North like last time.

It didn't help we got the worst of Arwen aswell. It's why the Metro was off pretty much (the wires seem to be down in two places at least between Benton and Wallsend) and I know the ECML is shut again north of Newcastle.

RE: Storm Delays - idiot - 29 Jan 2022

Between football club and Newsham roundabout in Blyth was closed due to live power lines on road.

The bus was stuck as a result of overhead powerlines being brought down

If you read the chronicle 2 weeks ago we were all going to be snowed in this weekend!

The quality of journalism in the Chronicle isn't exactly the greatest these days, is it?

And their weather reporting often seems to be a cut and paste job from Tbe Express, which seems to predict doom and gloom every other weekend.

The best way to use the Excess to advise you on the weather is to assume the opposite of whatever tripe they've published!
