RE: Wrestling - Malarkey - 12 Jun 2014

WWE have today Released a Number of Talents which include:

Drew McIntyre
Jinder Mahal
Aksana
Curt Hawkins
Theodore Long
Camacho
Brodus Clay
Evan Bourne
Yoshi Tatsu
Marc Harris (referee)

Confirmation:

I am disappointed that Santino Marella isn't on there along with Zack Ryder, No doubt this so Vince can offer CM Punk an overpaid Contract in a few weeks, As I have he planning on doing that.

Curt Hawkins is a decent hand and could be used as a trainer in developmental. From what I've heard people speak highly of him so I have a feeling he'll be back at some point.

As for the rest - no great loss. I feel a little bit sorry for Yoshi and Drew but it's not like they were an integral part of the product or anything.

WWE have a poor track record with Japanese wrestlers which doesn't really bode well for former NOAH star, KENTA, who has reportedly been signed and is currently awaiting his visa (along with Prince Devitt).

I always used to laugh at Kaientai (Taka Michinoku and Funaki) with there comical badly dubbed promos....EEEEVVVVVIIIIIILLLLL

Before that, WWE's version of Kaientai were probably most noted for trying to severe the penis of Val Venis with Wally Yamaguchi uttering the memorable line "Choppy Choppy your pee pee"

I love Kaientai by the way - one of my favourite stables in professional wrestling along with the nWo, Crazy MAX and The Shield. Their stuff from Michinoku Pro Wrestling (1995-97) is quality.

I vaguely remember Mr Yamaguchi wanting to chop Vals pee pee off...Oh, I miss the good old days of the Attitude Era Big Grin

Well, Val deserved all that was coming to him as far as I'm concerned. I mean, he shags Yamaguchi's wife and brags about it on a nationally syndicated television show. I really don't understand why he's portrayed as the heel in this situation. At least TAKA saw sense and DDT'd his partner - now there's a man with a strong sense of morality Big Grin

Was Vals gimmick at the time a Porn Star wannabe or was he just a cheap male slut, it was a time I was 3 steps from full blown alcoholism, so a lot of that period(97-2000) is a blur

Porn star wannabe; his finisher was a top-rope splash named 'The Money Shot'.

Although I liked Val Venis as a wrestler, I always saw his gimmick as a third-rate knock-off of 'Ravishing' Rick Rude.

Very appropriate name for a Splash [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND TIGHTLY-CLOSED EYES]

Indeed.

There was also another wrestler, based in Toryumon Japan (later renamed Dragon Gate), called Magnum TOKYO who had a similar porn-star gimmick. His main finishers were the AV-Star Press and the Viagra Driver but he had other creatively-named moves like the Erect Smash and the STPheromone.

He also had one of the best entrances in wrestling which consisted of women shoving money into his tights while dancing his way to the ring.

Will have to have a look on Youtube

This is what his entrance eventually evolved into. By 2003, he'd turned heel, gained a stable by the name of Do Fixer and subtly shifted his character from being Mr Viagra to Mr Egotist.

It's still one hell of an entrance though - easily the best in pro wrestling at that time.

There is something funny about a Japanese man walking an invisible dog in a group that I guess is called The Italian Connection

Milano Collection A.T. was probably my favourite wrestler from that particular time period. He was the total package: presence, charisma, fun gimmick and he was just so smooth in the ring. WWE were interested in him at one point and there's a good chance he would've ended up there eventually. Unfortunately, he got injured around 2007/8 (I think?) and retired shortly after.

He also had a mini named Milanito Collection a.t.

RE: Wrestling - MurdnunoC - 23 Jun 2014

I attended the TCW show at the NE6 Suite in downtown Walker last night.

I thought the choice of venue was a little strange but decent enough for a small show. The show itself was OK but nowt special with the exception of one very entertaining comedy-style match between Grado and Noam Dar which involved both wrestlers standing in line for chips and sharing the chips with the audience. The match, was was billed as 'Best Friends, Worse Enemies', ended when Dar and Grado had each other in position for a chokeslam. Instead of one succeeding in their endeavour, both released each other from grips and the referee ended up taking a double-chokeslam. Grado and Dar covered the referee while Grado counted the pin to bring the match to a close.

The rest of the results (as far as I can remember) were:

1) El Ligero def AJ Anderson
2) Liam Lazarus and Mike Purdie def Janius Centurion and Dave Carbon
3) Violet O'Hara def Kay Lee Ray
4) Bobby Jackson def BT Gunn
5) The Bucky Boys def The Proven
6) Grado NC Noam Dar
7) Rampage Brown def Dara Diablo & Jack Jester

TCW return to Newcastle in November (16th I think) for Deep Rising 2014. I'll probably go again.

Remind me closer to the time, if I can I may join you

I will. One match has been announced already - El Ligero vs. BT Gunn. El Ligero ran in for the save at the end of the BT Gunn/Bobby Jackson match when Gunn threatened to use a chair.

In other news...

WWE have debuted a new tag-team on NXT called the 'Vaudevillians'

It's a 1920s style gimmick complete with a 'Black and White' styled entrance. I don't know how well it will get over on the main show, but it looks like loads of fun in NXT.

Kissing Vinces arse apart, I have always liked William Regal...

Saying that I have always liked British wrestlers, I love Bad News and Paige is just well...Paige, words cannot describe her beauty, not a supermodel, more your girl next door Big Grin

And from what I have seen of Adrian Neville would love to see him called up to the Majors sometime soon
