(04 Feb 2016, 9:20 pm)8222 If you get a 757 it'll be a fun takeoff/landing into Chambery - I think the runway is quite short!

I got G-GDFK a 737-300, I fly home tomorrow and looking at flight records the plane just sits on the ground at Newcastle for a week

Yeah - probably with it being low season. I know BA send some of their A32x fleet into temporary storage.

Jet2 don't base any 757s at Newcastle anymore and are instead covered by 737-800s alongside the older 737-300s

I had G-GDFG, a 733. G-GDFK, that flew me out was supposed to take me home; however, the flight left Newcastle at 8:15am, and was diverted to Lyon, because the plane was then due to fly to Edinburgh and then back to Newcastle via Chambery, it flew light to Chambery and flew out to Edinburgh 6 hours late. To stop further inconvenience, Jet2 flew G-GDFG an Edinburgh based 733 to pick me and fly the people out from Edinburgh. I arrived back at 20:47 instead of the planned 18:45. G-GDFG took G-GDFK's place a Newcastle giving Edinburgh G-GDFK in exchange.

That sounds like a bit of a nightmare. It's been a good few years since I've flown LS. The last time I flew LS was to Prague. I had one of their 733s. They're not badly kept internally, considering their age, but nowadays, I'd much rather have a BA/EZY Airbus for short haul.

If you go long haul - aim for a BA 77W; gorgeous aeroplanes. That said, they don't feel quite as sturdy as their wonderful, but a bit tired, 744s for a transatlantic hop. That, and their moving map seems to break the IFE! At least it did on G-STBL.

At the beginning of last month I went easyjet to Belfast on G-EZFB, it had just been repainted and was considerably better than Jet2's 733's.
I am going to Mexico or Aruba in 2017 with Thomson on a dreamliner if not, if I get my own way St Maarten with Air France/KLM. I get a dreamliner again in 2018 to Florida as well as a 757 to Newark from Belfast because the NCL-EWR flights are seasonal starting in May and it's for a week so Jet2 is not an option. We'll go easyjet to Belfast then United or Aer Lingus. Possibly BA but probably not.

I believe this year is the last to be reviewed by United in Passenger Numbers and if passenger numbers are healthy ( Which they are on that route ) then United are apparently turning it into a year round service by 2017 or 2018.

Last week I flew on G-CELV, the oldest aircraft I have flown on with an age of 29 years, built in 1986, the trip to Malta was a very rattely three and a half hours and the plane was not as well kept as G-GDFG or G-GDFK, the only other two 733sI have flown on with Jet2. I flew the route three years ago with easyjet and I would fully recommend Easyjet overall, my next Jet2 flight is a return trip home to Newcastle on the 11th, after that the 11th August 2017 (ironic) to Heraklion

I am with you - for low cost I always go easyJet where I can. Partly because I really do prefer Airbus on short haul - although I'd much rather a 777/747 long haul. I've flown IB on their A330s and it just doesn't feel the same as a 77W, 747 or even a 767 for some reason.

I have to say, I'm loyal to BA. The drinks round is very rapid! I'm flying Cityflyer from LCY to MAD very soon, and then Iberia internally. Can't wait for the BA sector, just dreading what IB have in store...

To be honest, every time I fly long haul to Latin America/USA, I generally have enough for a cheap Euro trip in Club Europe from Newcastle. Haven't done long haul this year so the Avios are a bit low Sad

Aircraft flown on:

744, 77W, 772, E145, E190, E170, E175, E195, A319, A320, A320NEO, A321, A321NEO, A330-200, A330-300, A340-600 763, 752, 733, 737, 738, CRJ900, CRJ1000

...................................................................................................

Is that alcohol ban including duty free purchases?

Iberia have some lovely aircraft (A330s) but their service... Well...

And I presume it won't be as duty free is normally put into a sealed plastic bag and, I could be wrong here, not to be opened until customs has been cleared on the other side.
