Go North East have a fully electric Optare decker on demo for the 21.

Martijn has also mentioned, others will be coming to test for future orders.

I'd like to see some if those ordered in the NE, wonder if they'll trial a Streetdeck HCEV too as they'll be amazing for the NE especially as GNE have a large fleet of Streetdecks already.

The main issue with Hydrogen is the infrastructure required, even more so than going BEV.
I'm guessing if they go Hydrogen they'd have to build their own generation plant as I don't believe there is anywhere local to supply it, although I could be mistaken on that.

I do think that for a lot of GNE's routes Hydrogen would probably be the better of the electric options due to it's higher energy density enabling a longer range, although that could all change depending on how much change we see in battery technology.

I don't think it's as simple as dropping infrastructure in, as I thought it had to run through a pipeline or something. Admittedly I don't know a lot about it though!

There was talk of BP building a facility on Teesside: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/produ...ergy-model

That was my point, at least with the infrastructure for a BEV the infrastructure is relatively simple, it is essentially just a big phone charger after all!

I agree, much better suited to long routes like Xlines or angel etc. Electric for shorter local routes. They just need battery technology to advance a bit more. However the metals required are so rare to produce these batteries, hydrogen is the only current long sustainable power source

The Metrodecker EV is such a nice vehicle. Performance is faultless and it’s really impressive to see Optare finally making good moves.

I know I've already said this elsewhere but I've always felt that Hydrogen offers the longer term solution so it would be nice to see something like that trialled.

Agreed, the ore used to produce batteries is too rare. I'm sure GNE will trial one at some point
