Stagecoach North East: Latest News & Discussion - November 2018

I think whoever dreamed up the x24a just looked at a map and thought that looks a good route, why the morning x24a is taken off Durham road with bus lane priorities and sent down Chester road beggars belief, every morning I see it stuck in massive traffic queue on springwell road, then stuck again on chester road, its like they dont want the service to work

Maybe because the hospital is on Chester Road and they dont want to skip it out?

If this were the case; wouldn't you just turn left and head down to Barnes Park after serving the hospital, omitting The Wavendon where the traffic goes manic at peak-times?

You'd still be adding time on to serve the hospital and go round the Barnes gyratory system (compared to direct via Durham Road) but may possibly be better than sitting in unpredictable traffic at The Wavendon.

I used to live in the area but moved away a few years ago, and was always inconvenienced by the traffic when travelling by bus. Operators - Go North East certainly - added a lot of extra time into the timetable so those later in the route weren't inconvenienced (or the bus turned up 'on time' at least), but really this is the type of political thing that bus operators should be working with the council with to try and combat, rather than the operator going to the expense of adding extra time into the timetable to accommodate.

It's been a few years since I last experienced this area in peak times, but picked up a shift at Deptford on Friday evening gone and was amazed that it was still so bad at 17:00. The traffic had always died down by this point on a Friday in years gone by.

The other bizarre thing about the x24a is the massive gap in service it creates on a weekday afternoon towards Newcastle at Chester Road past springwell Road where it turns off. There's a bus at 3.40pm then nothing until after 7.30 because of the diversion to serve Doxford

That's correct.

Noticed tonight on a 12 from Doxford Park to Sunderland.
The destination board just stated
12 City Centre In a unusual type format. Bus 28008 gas bus. Think services on Teesside are using this. Question is why? Are stagecoach copying go north east

I noticed a 10 which had 'Grangetown Alexandra' (or words to that effect) at the weekend, was also in the larger terminal font with a very small via point.

They aren't copying Go North East - the style Stagecoach is using is the same as that used by the Cumbria and North Lancashire division.

Been in use for a while in the Teesside/Hartlepool list - only initially on certain destinations (12 to Hemlington and Parkway Centre, 13 Middlesbrough and 1 Hartlepool Centre), it appears to have been rolled out properly to all services this week (noticed a 59 showing Stockton Castlegate Centre in the style on Tuesday morning and a 58 Hardwick last night).

Indeed, the custom Cumbria & North Lancs fonts are proving to be popular choices of fonts........
Stagecoach South, Wales and Yorkshire also in on the action too.

All Hartlepool routes should do - Hartlepool and Stockton now share a destination list (whereas until last year, each depot had their own list with Stockton having destinations programmed for the 1 [which were very basic] and the 7).
