The AM 939 also now drops onto 10/11 from Pennywell at 0831.

That explains why there's been a decker on the 18, which is pointless throughout the day, as it normally runs around empty... should of interworked with another service - not the 18.
I like how all Sunderland 3s now serve both gilley law and Farringdon keep it that way going forward
On VOSA today, 18/18A Sunderland timetable change 26th Oct.

Wouldn't be surprised if they cut more runs.

Does anyone ever use this service?

Peak times could get busy but other than that, not really.

I haven't seen the service for a while so can't put a number on current passenger numbers.

Could we see it withdrawn completely in the future with other services amanded to cover certain sections. Seems like its heading that way.

18A is busy as I was a frequent passenger

Ye, and the first bus of the day is too (well it was before lockdown) but rest of the day, it normally runs empty, wouldn't be surprised if its dropped to every 2 hours before its finally fully withdrawn.

Current timetable is a mess.
The 18 hasn't been the same since the Queen Alex Bridge closure years ago in my opinion.

Ye, i think that too, that work killed the 6 off too.

Stagecoach killed the service off when it took on the roll of service 6 route and also killed it off many years ago when there axed the evenings and Sundays services which forced customers to change into the town centre for onward travel

That is also true. Was essentially a lot of oaps used it on the evening and Sundays to.

Especially airshow weekend

Edit: just checked current timetable and there's already a 9:03am bus.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they withdrew the 18. Stagecoach have a tendency to withdraw these kind of 'round the houses' routes. It's a shame if it goes like the 5/ 5A. They both provided local links and not just into town and back. The 18 is a shadow of it's former glory now.  Sad
The old PTE service 121/122 was a service I used frequently as a kid. Tunstall Rd terminus to Seaburn via the Town. These were replaced in 1983 by 118/119.
Does anyone know if Sunderland will be introducing the changes they had planned for April 2020 which included a new route 22?

Apart from swapping the southern termini of the 4/23 and renumbering 23 to 22 they have basically introduced the April changes - which were otherwise just the frequency cuts iirc.
No changes have taken place yet to my knowledge
