Not sure if it is a new vehicle or not (never seen it before) but a 53 reg Cadet is working the 79

That would be YJ53VEB ex-High Peak. Acquired back at the beginning of April AFAIK.
Thats the one!

If I hadnt seen the rear of the bus, Id have been telling people about the Renown they had working the 79.

Its one crossbreed of a vehicle mind, with it having the old style square lamps, rather than the rounded version common on the GNE or ANE cadets.
VEB is on 38Cs today if anyone needs a photo.

There are four in total acquired from High Peak.
Three of the four are YJ53VEA, YJ53VEB YJ04BZD.
VEB seems to be the one that likes to be seen, but VEA likes to be on the 79 a lot so I suspect that the one that you seen was VEA (perhaps!).
To my knowledge, VEB has the same rear end with circular lights as GNE's Cadets do.
Probably should have been clearer - meant the headlights.

The Compass Cadet has the square headlights and solid Wright Logo similar to the Renowns, opposed to the GNE Cadets

The older GNE Cadets (<2004) have square headlights. As seen here.
Although there are some deviation on the 2004 plates, as some are Merits (square) and some Cadets (round). Same buses underneath though, just dealer difference under Volvo as opposed to DAF.
Seen today at about 12pm. .unknown Cadet geting pulled along to depot, was heading along durham road towards Plains Farm area.
As reported earlier in the thread, Community Transport will start operating the 23 Barley Mow - Washington Galleries route with Stanley Travel from next Monday 3 June

Stanley used to operate with that group that went bust that I can't remember the name of! Shy

That former company was Connect.

Thanks Kuyoyo, was on the tip of my tongue. I don't get why Nexus have retendered out when Stanley seem to manage operating this fairly short route by themselves
I would guess Stanley took over on a short term basis until the end of the current contract. Re-tendering will then take place just as it would if Connect had operated until the end of the contract term.

But why 2 companies to operate one route? Surely can't be more cost effective than using one company?
I think it's down to Nexus tendering by bus boards and not services as such. Derbyshire do the same thing so you have 3 or 4 companies operating on the same service just on different trips.
Today marked the first day of Compass operating the 23 and they used Optare Solo YJ08 PKU today.

Do Compass have many Nexus liveried vehicles?

Er... How's about none?
See previous post about the matter.

Thanks, great to see Nexus clamping down!
Today Comapass the Optare Solo out again on the 23 and also YX09 EUD Bluebird Tucanna on Nexus Service 23 to Barley Mow Estate

Just waiting to see a Wright Cadet on the 23 now
I'm not sure if it's the sun but that Bluebird looks to have a terrible destination blind made more annoying by Springwell not being capitalised.

The old dears who patronize the service will never be able to read that

That's better than how the 8X's blind is programmed!

Ugh, see below:

I think it was the Sun tbh as it was directly above my head at the time of the photo, as for the OAP's there was a canny few of them like.
Solo went into Penshaw working a 79. A Cadet came out just now onto Shiney Row, on (I think) a 79a. Not sure where the handover point is, but a potential photo opportunity if anyone finds out...
Can't find any photos of said vehicle on Flickr, so assuming that I may have mis-read the registration as my 2C stormed past, but NX56DXA was unusually working one of the Sunderland Royal Hospital Park & Rides today.
NX54BWY is being utilised on the free shuttle service between Wheatsheaf and The Grange today as a result of the road closure there.
Does anyone know if the Cadet has op'd on the 23 yet?

Someone had said to me that Barley Mow Estate can't cope with the bigger vehicle but Classic used to send a double decker to it and the school is served by coaches all the time

Didn't the 183 go round there with nationals?

It would have done and with Metrobuses on it, and the 26 with Delta's/Spectras.

I'd say from judging what I've found on Google Maps, it's not much different to what the buses going down Knightside Gardens in Dunston have to cope with. It looks like a squeeze in some places, but should probably be fine.
