RE: Network Rail
TPX are tweeting that their trains are terminating at York due to overhead line damage between York and Newcastle.
I assume vtec and xc are affected too.

91117's pantograph snapped just south of Darlington and it took 4 hours for the Thunderbird from Newcastle to get there, it got to Newcastle 298L

Ooh ya bugger. That's a delay and a half. Had some bad ones, but never that bad.
Have they said what caused it?

Not sure where to put this but this was post on the skyscrapercity forum: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=985232&page=37 (near the bottom)

Thanks to DoxyLad for sharing:

I was sitting close by Julie Elliott MP on a Grand Central service to Kings Cross a couple of Mondays ago. I missed part of the conversation, but she was talking to another chap about the station development. It sounded as if the whole of the existing station footprint is to be redeveloped, including the block of buildings including Nationwide, Poundland and WH Smith. It also sounded like there was still several variations of the design, so they are still to agree on final design. "Completed before the Tall Ships arrive" was also mentioned.

I hope this goes ahead, its about time the area was sorted, everything but Burger King should be knocked down and re-built in to the new train station, a bit like central in Newcastle but over 2 floors...(bottom for trains) upstairs... shops etc................ Nationwide, i'm sure can find a empty building somewhere in Sunderland City Centre....

Reason to knock everything down from Nationwide to where WHS was:

Bigger station
Better facilities
Looks cleaner
Better units for shops
Open planned
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.

Network Rail have turned their property arm in to an independent property company, tasked with raising £1.8bn from its estate to fund the Railway Upgrade Plan.

For the last week or so, I've seen lowloaders heading north on the A1, full to the brim with concrete sleepers.

Today, I saw a big (huge) stockpile of them at Lamesley Tyne yard. They're visible from the main road.

The stockpile seemed smaller today.

Possibly to do with this (http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/B2...8/advanced) that I saw last night and similar trips that are appearing on RTT.

I know there's been talk of a new station up there, but the last lot of closures for work in that area was about 10 years ago.
