Eastbound closure of Vine Place and Holmeside in Sunderland City Centre
Sunderland City Council have advised Vine Place and Holmeside will be subject to an emergency eastbound road closure from Monday 15 June 2020.

This closure has been requested by Northumbria Police, and is necessary to facilitate appropriate “social distancing” in this more constrained area of the city centre.

In addition to the temporary eastbound road closure, the bus stopping point for some westbound bus services will also be amended.

The westbound bus stops on Holmeside near Park Lane Market and Mecca Bingo will both be suspended, and affected services will be relocated further west to new temporary bus stops situated on Vine Place. These temporary stops will be close to Hays Travel.

The most westerly of these temporary stops will be allocated routes 8, 16, X24 and X24A.

The more easterly of the temporary stops will be allocated routes 10, 11 and 20.

Eastbound buses which would normally operate via Vine Place and Holmeside will be unable serve their normal stops, and will be diverted via Stockton Road and Burdon Road, observing a stop on Stockton Road, near “The Bunker”. These eastbound services will also continue to observe their normal stops on Fawcett Street or Borough Road.

Whilst these arrangements will formally commence on Monday 15 June, these temporary measures may be installed in the days immediately preceding. Once the various restrictions commence, buses will be required to change routes/ stops accordingly at that point in time.

Stagecoach would like to apologise for any inconvenience, delays or disruptions these necessary temporary measures by Sunderland City Council may cause.
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.
