It looks like a write off. Due to its age I doubt it will be repaired.

I wonder what will replace it?

They have been since the launch, if you mean since the relaxation of lockdown then I think they’re restarted with 19680 being repainted recently.

Yes that was 19161 but the fire vehicle which this thread is for was 19439.

yes so if they are potentially repairing a 2007 vehicle which is 19161 , are the going to repair a 2008 bus which is 19439?

But 19161 is being converted into an open top bus so won't cost anywhere near the price of rebuilding a bus thats been fire damaged. I think 19439 has already been scrapped anyway.

19439 is listed under "Vehicles for Disposal", with a note that the reason is "Fire damage" in the most recent fleet allocation card which I have seen.

As the card is dated for November last year, it's quite possible that events have moved on and the vehicle disposed of - but it won't be coming back!

With regard to the suggestion that older vehicles have been repaired: Bodywork damage can be relatively easily sorted, sometimes by cannibalising parts of other vehicles; in many cases it can be largely cosmetic, although damage around the chassis may have an effect on the structural integrity of the vehicle which would make a significant difference to the outcome. A fire, on the other hand, will result in major damage to the parts of the bus that make it go, as well as to the lower portions of the body, which would be an altogether different approach to possible repair and far more likely resulting in disposal for scrap once re-usable parts have been stripped.

i didn't realize 61 was going to be converted to open topper, that would make sense

i remembered  when 19151 had its fire there was doubt it would have been repaired, I hadn't heard anything on 439 in a while so was hopeful, i have been out the loop with fleet cards so had missed that, its a shame, did anything replace it?

The infamous bridge between Walker and Wallsend, yes.

It's still a bit surreal, travelling on that bus and knowing that the top is newer than the bottom!
