RE: London Bus Scene - Transport for London (TfL)
Speaking of consultations - just had this emailed through to me from TfL.

https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/vauxhall-cross

Not sure if they tailor their consultations to passengers who use Vauxhall, by analysing Oyster data or if it is sent to everyone - but quite a cost effective method of obtaining feedback.

This makes the Citaro Bendys that worked.....I mean burned on Londons roads look good.
But yeah It was a very big waste of money, it was probably the only thing that got him elected as Mayor.

And Boris has blown £300,000 on water cannon that Teresa May won't let him use:-

Today is the day a decision is made with regard to the future orders for the next lot of Borismasters.
The line in Northern Ireland will close if an order isn't made.

Apart from the obvious styling (and, no doubt, the ancilliaries), that must be significantly different from the Borismaster, as it has the radiators where the rear entrance would be.

It is indeed a Volvo B5LH Chassis with the bodywork a slightly modified NBFL

So far, I believe.

Pictured at Covent Garden on 16/03/16 having just been launched is the very first Wrightbus 'SRM' - Son of Routemaster, a 2 door New Routemaster body on Volvo chassis.

This still unregistered and unumbered vehicle is for London United.

Haven't long picked up an email from Tfl about their fares.

'...Sadiq Khan is freezing all fares on buses and trams and all pay as you go and paper single fares on Tube and DLR services.'

It goes on about bike hire/access charges being frozen as well as PAYG journeys where Tfl fares apply.

After the closing salutation the email continues

Daily and weekly caps cannot be included because they're set with Train Companies under guidance from the Department for Transport, the Mayor does not control them

It isn't just me is it?

Didn't Ken get into trouble when he tried that? (1981 - way before Boris came on the scene):- Fares fair.

Didn't he drop fares before freezing? Rather than just freezing them as they are.

Indeed.

At the time I saw it as a smart move which would result in many more people using public transport rather than bothering with their own cars.
The objections were based on the increases in 'council tax' across London to pay for the reduction - those 'unable' (or unwilling) to access the Tube or buses weren't happy to subsidise their fellow 'citizens'.
One aspect of the London Transport reforms was however maintained; the new system of flat fares within ticket zones, and the inter-modal Travelcard ticket continues as the basis of the ticketing system.
The GLC then put together new measures in the hope of reducing London Transport fares by the more modest amount of 25%, taking them back to roughly the price that they were when Livingstone's administration took office; it was ruled legal in January 1983, and subsequently implemented.
