Does the Toonlink brand refer to a specific corridor like? The X30/X31 link Stanley with the 'toon' just as much as the 12/12A link the 'toon' with Winlaton.

I think it would look good in WDS to.
It looked great on the omni's, not too sure if it would suit the omnidekkas.

Ya never know it may re-emerge in the future...... [Image: biggrin.gif]

X70/X71 could also have been included in this new "Swift service to Newcastle" (as these services were part of the original WDS having a similar routing from Sunniside)
"New Northern" Service 6 would have looked good similarly branded as "Magpie" with imagery of a Magpie in flight on rear quarter panel, following Red Kite (and peoposed "Swift" theme)
"Magpie" obviously has associations with Newcastle (Destination) but also (the birds) attraction to Diamonds (service with which it connects - having been the Northern part of the old Diamond service) - Maybe a lot more marketing could play on these themes?

All these "Bird in flight" brands would have synergy of connecting North West Durham towns with Newcastle.

p.s. - I notice from changes to Stanley services, the section of A692 from Pickering Nook Lights to Top Croookgate bank, passing The Hobson Hotel/Golf Course is no longer served (previously by 44 Diamond, which will in future be Northern 6 routed via Burnopfield)

Can anyone give answer to Service changes affecting Hobson section of A692 ?

North West Durham nothing to do with Winlaron "Toon Link"

But the brand isnt called 'Winlaton ToonLink' though is it? It is simply just 'ToonLink' which means that the brand doesnt relate to a specific corridor.

Come on!!

See a bigger picture ... beyond local enthusiastics ! Ask  yourself " How easy would you find local transport if you had just landed from Laos via DUBAI?

Quite hard if i'm honest.. with everything wrote in Arabic.... and not having a clue where all the local transport go.

Least if they come over here they can identity the brand they need... if they need to go from A to B.... such as they are told they need the "ToonLink X30" or "X30"... They'll go and find the service and identify it as a black branded bus... means at least they know that route goes where they want to.

Got a good close up look at 5285 in its new livery, today. It is the best they've done in a why.

Shame that only the right half of not in service was visible on the front led blind.

The "NOT IN SERVICE" display isn't a 'full screen' due to the fact this vehicle has a colour panel. If it was left in the colour panel, it would look something like this:

If you mean something else, and there is a genuine fault (which you probably do, given you said the right hand side was working and not the left), we'll have a look at it next Saturday. It could be something as simple as a wrong switch setting - I know the back of the Mercedes Citaros are set up as the back of an OmniCity (which is a completely different size), so that's why they look a little strange.

The rear screen was only showing 'OT IN SER' when it was dumped in Durham when I passed through at 0950.

The right half was uniform in colour with the left completely blank. Said something like ervice with only the right half of the box around it

In my opinion, destinations are as difficult as the company makes them. The likes of Stagecoach have very few problems with destinations, and I think that's because they stick to a standard size across all vehicles. Behind the scenes, the destinations themselves are nifty pieces of kit which have the potential to do a lot of things. The destinations are linked to Next Stop Announcements which is an important thing to keep in mind when making destinations, as the order must be the same on both systems otherwise they'll get confused.

Go North East has more than ten different sizes of LED destination alone (across the company), and that's before you even consider the vehicles which have the older flipdot displays and the mixture of both LED and flipdot. As such, the process to make the destinations is a lot more time-consuming, and there's a lot more that can go wrong. However, the new method of profiling the destination controllers should, on paper, make things a little less complicated (as switch settings will no longer need to be changed when a bus transfers from one depot to another).

Arriva are already falling into the same trap as Go North East: their vehicles which are refurbished to "Sapphire" specification have a front display in the back opposed to a standard size rear display, but their programme seemingly does not accommodate for this size to be used in the back.

We are looking into uploading the destination programmes and Next Stop media to vehicles using Wi-Fi. To provide an example of what this could achieve - on the first day of the Rugby World Cup, the traffic resulted in all services being terminated at Central Station heading into Newcastle, rather than Eldon Square. If we had this automatic uploading of media, destinations would have been able to show "Newcastle Central Station" with the Next Stop Announcement screens also showing a notice to passengers.

Now that would be good, would be easier for passengers to know that the bus will be terminating at "Central" instead of else where...

It would be a lot easier on diversions to... i'm sure that's what Lothian does?

Lothian Buses show "Route Diverted" on the destination display (as below), and also have other variations such as "Part Route":

So it's a similar system, but I believe theirs is manual rather than automatic.

Looking at the fleet list on here, only 5287 (NK08 CFX) is to be branded.... so 8/9 has been done.

Yes, I think they're the final two to be branded and would have been done last night.

As they're now done and dusted, I believe any branding on the "Venture" branded minibuses which won't be relevant come the end of the month (references to Castleside, Stanley to Consett, connections to Metrocentre etc) is planned to be removed (and possible replaced) tonight.

I've been out and about most of the day and only just got back in the house, so didn't get time to update the fleet lists/news before going to work or during my lunch break!

Any idea when the Omnidekka's will get branded?

Also will we finally see the cadets branded "Black Cats" after all the branding is done for the upcoming changes?  Angel Angel
