It is valid up until Earsdon when travelling from Whitley Bay.

To be honest, my initial thought was that the driver didn't see many of such tickets and therefore just wasn't sure of the validity. However, his subsequent claim to have specifically asked his supervisors about validity did make me stop and think. Subsequent journeys on other 57s didn't throw up any problems - in fact, on one of them the driver was receiving some kind of training instruction, and queried the ticket with the trainer, who confirmed validity but said it should be recorded using the "Explorer" button on the machine!

My Tyne and Wear Megarider runs out tonight. I should have asked a driver tonight, but would I be able to use my contactless card on the bus in order to purchase a megarider for my Stagecoach Smart card?

If not I have a nice walk to the ATM in the morning :p.

What would be the cheapest ticket to travel from Prudhoe to Middlesbrough and back as I am going down there on 4th February for Teesside Unleashed at Marton Country Club & Hotel as I will be needing to travel on GNE and Arriva buses to get there and back, as usually I don't buy tickets as I use my bus pass which is due to expire on the 1st and I will have to wait for a new one which won't arrive by then

Surely he knows the T&W boundary considering that the driver in question unless new, would've had let many other people on between Brunton Park and Newcastle on the Morpeth / Ashington 'X' services!!!

It's clearly signposted where the Northumberland / T&W border is on the A192!

BIB: 57 drivers don't drive conventional services. 

My advice for Ianthegoon would be to log a complaint to Arriva Customer Services, as they'll forward information to the depot which will put out notices to drivers advising of Nexus fare boundaries.

Does anyone know why Stagecoach don't like using the Interchange? It always used to annoy me when I went to Gateshead College and used the X34 from the Nook that I'd have to walk through the town centre (this was as they were building the tesco, so not a pretty walk) to the interchange to catch my bus to Team Valley. It meant I was more likely to use a metro too because there was less walking to do.

Wasn't sure if I should ask this here, or put it in the pricing thread but here goes - 

Whickham to Winlaton is £2.15 single (from GNE website).  Whickham to Blaydon is also £2.15 single.

On a Friday & Saturday evening, the last 69 from Whickham is 23:45, but terminates at Blaydon.  I can change at Blaydon and catch a 12 up to Winlaton, but have to pay £1.50 for the privilege.

Is there some sort of through ticket that I don't know about, or do I have to miss out the Bridle Path and get the 22:45 bus back instead?

You could get off, whether you are allowed through the barriers is another thing.

Thanks. I would think that the ticket barriers would be off at 20:30 on a Sunday night though (hopefully!)

Was at Darlington last Saturday afternoon and the barriers were only open for exiting the station, had to insert the ticket to get onto the platform

Arriva services 1 and 5 stop on Dale Road, which is the closest stop to NRM Shildon. 


A query of my own... where does PCL Travel's service 15 stop at Cragside heading towards Alnwick? I don't really want to be stood in the wrong place just for the bus to drive past as I need to catch a train from Alnmouth...

These are your two options, neither have any bus flags or markings but I think I saw someone get on at opp Country Park heading towards Alnwick once.
