There are agreed service change dates by area - these usually coincide with Nexus contract change dates (so North Tyneside is March, Sunderland/Washington is May).

Has this been officially confirmed yet? I know GNE wouldn't release any info on changes for at least another month but I'm unfamiliar with Nexus

Not officially confirmed, no, but Nexus have now awarded contracts for the May tenders and sent this information to operators.

I'd be surprised if it was. Given the frequency on an evening, it would mean around half an hour sitting time at the Galleries every time

Given the tender specifications, I would assume GCT will be restricted to using just MMC's and Solo's on the Washington locals?

I wonder how many times that is flouted....

Or how much of the route is missed out Tongue

Wonder if these will still go ahead on the 17th May, because of the crisis?

I wonder how many will get caught out, of being not allowed to use a GNE pass on the services? (atm they're allowed due to the crisis but what about after?), because people might still think they can use them after the crisis is over (unlikely to be for a while though)

Only 10 days away from changes, nothing as of yet on the GNE site.

They'll have to go ahead, if the contract has been signed and sealed. The incumbent is no longer obliged to run the services from the 17th May.

I'd hope that Nexus would have studied the passenger data and pass usage heavily during the procurement phase, and would have been able to properly communicate to those likely to be impacted by these changes. But then again, I also hope that Newcastle will win the league... ?

There's nothing on the Nexus website either.

RE: Rumoured service changes - May 2020
Depending on the situation in 10 days time, I think we could well see a similar model used for this group of contracts as we have seen for those on North Tyneside.

The contracts that involve the handing over of 100% service operations (ie. 168) happens, but those that only apply on an evening & Sunday temporarily remain with the daytime commercial operator working from their timetable.

As for ticketing, confusion over pass use when operators change is a risk regardless of being in a health crisis. You'd hope that operators would publicise the ending of the current ticketing agreement just as much as they did when entering it. After that, as clarified previously, it's down to Nexus.

Maybe but aren't Go North East still running the 11, 42 etc even though they lost the Evening/Sunday contracts?

Believe so, but more fool them. Nexus should be told where to go, if their own contractor cannot fulfil the contract!

I think these 1 year contracts make it look like it is more than it actually is. Previously these would have spanned multiple years.

The reason for GNE running this service has nothing to do with GCT being unable to run these services or having the capacity. There is another reason that is not for publication in this forum

Incorrect statement.

CToG are set to take the contracts for 11/19/41/42/42A back on Sunday 17th May.  They also have the required number of drivers available to operate this work.

Huge leap going from very few to operating all of the March and May contract awards. Good luck!

To not operate the North Tyneside contracts for the first two months of the contract award is pretty serious and I am struggling to think of a reason that would be justified to Nexus, if it was anything besides driver availability as a result of the pandemic. That is very much a temporary thing which is out of the hands of the company (so excusable in the current climate). Interesting if that is not the case!

Under normal circumstances the contract would have to be formally forfeited permanently and re-tendered, rather than operated by the previous contract operator as a goodwill gesture until the new operator is “ready”.
