Yea the X20 used to go to shields using optares, Bus used to do x20 to shields then x50 shields to Durham then x20 to shields etc.., the 220 used to go to shields under the vfm brand (220 Durham to South Shields every 20 minutes) providing a 10 minute service with wear buses 220 between Sunderland and Durham

Good old 537, used to get that service a lot from Grindon to Shields, service only used to be between Boldon/hylton to shields before it was extended over the A19 to Chester Road and took over the 109 route between Helmsdale road to town

14, as it interworked with the 921.

Believe at one point it was even 15, with 3943 forming part of the PVR at the time.

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
Suggestion based on the community engagement session the other day. Would increase PVR by 1x but re-instate the link without a loop to speak.

- 41 Hadrian Park to Wallsend Metro only (PVR 3x) - evenings see below.
- 311 extended to Wallsend via Howdon (basically the old 40/41 route) - not evenings and Sundays with 41 staying in current form then.
- Evening & Sunday 311 withdrawn, Evening & Sunday 310 via Hadrian Park.
- 309 standalone on Sundays & Public Holidays to improve reliability and allow wiggle room for traffic on the Coast.

Operational Info:
- 41 PVR reduced by 1x to 3x.
- 309/311 PVR = 13x - Round trip off peak would be 4hr 40 mins.
- 310 PVR = 5x (now standalone)
- GPS destinations for 311 would be:
* Newcastle bound **bottom** = 311 Hadrian Park **then Newcastle** / 311 Newcastle **via High Farm & Coast Road**
* Wallsend bound **bottom** = 311 Hadrian Park **then Wallsend** / 311 Wallsend **via Howdon & Holy Cross**

Would this be similar to the 305 or not. What about when the X39 resumes.

Pretty much except that it would serve Holy Cross like the old 40/41 did.

X39 is what I need to work out. I've done a suggestion timetable but will need to factor the X39 in.

Mornings should be straight forward but afternoons could be tricky. Obviously a regular service would need to run between Wallsend and Hadrian Park. Only the Hadrian Park-Newcastle section could be "docked".

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
I may seem a bit odd to say this. But I think the 42/42A route needs to be changed. From the range roundabout then to Benton Asda then Wallsend they follow the exact same route. Plus the 42A from Kingston Park to Wallsend seems far doesn't it. The 42A route is long enough getting to Four Lane Ends. Which is what the 353 route was. Over the years. The 101 353 and 42A all followed the same route no change apart from the 353 stop serving the airport for a while. Just my opinion
RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
In my opinion I still see the 311 pointless. Reason why.
1. It follows the 310 route to hadrian park
2. The 310 used to serve hadrian park on a nighttime and Sunday before the service 311 Sunday and evening route was introduced
3. I barely see anyone use the 311 to hadrian park. Most of them get of at Tyne Met or Coast road anyway or I might be missing something.
Going of the post about the 311 going to Wallsend now that I'd like to see

Nothing too badly wrong with the 311. It serves it's purpose and also offers a higher combined frequency with the 309 & 310 at a reduced PVR (16 from 17) whilst also maintaining a Hadrian Park to Newcastle service.

Only thing that could change is the timings to increase profit. So with the 309 & 311 interworking (310 standalone), the running order would look like this to Newcastle:

309-311-310

Towards Battle Hill would be as now though but still better the opposite way.
RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
Touching on a previous suggestion, the best bet for a replacement for the Howdon section of the 41 would be replacing it with the Q3,or another idea could be extending the 42/42A since the 41 is every 30 mins around Howdon anyway, and the 42/42A is every 30 mins combined, think the 41 would have to stay to serve Wallsend,Battle Hill and Hadrian Park
Kind Regards

42/42A extension would be a sensible idea as long as there is enough running time. Would make more sense than extending the 311:

- X39 & peak 309 workings could cause issues
- 2x extra minibuses vs 2x extra B9TLs? - fuel

Yeah,i just thought by doing that nobody is losing out that way, it would still be maintaining a 30 min frequency, rather than disturb the Q3 which is every 15 mins, and tbh Howdon doesnt really need a bus every 15 mins, just a bus that doesnt do something whacky like the current 41

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
If the 42/42A was to be extended. At least they should be given a bus upgrade. Maybe use Scania CN230UB OmniCity or Scania OmniDekka. Would be nice to see a Scania OmniCity/ OmniDekka in the blue North Tyneside livery. Possibly upgrade the entire little coaster network with bigger buses

the only probelm would be the demand from customers, I don't think there is enough demand for this.
RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
Seeing the amount of breakdowns on the solos. It would see reasonable for them to be upgraded I guess. Seeing the Ex Saltwell Park streetlites over at percy main. Sending some of the little coaster for others routes would be nice to see

If it has no markings it will be above 16 feet, which is fine for double deckers.
RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
I think the 42A should be taken of little coaster and be rebranded to something different. Having something like MetroLink would be good as it serves Kingston Park metro, Bank Foot Metro, Callerton Parkway Metro, Airport Metro, Four Lane Ends, Metro, Wallsend Metro. I wouldn't class it as little coaster anymore. Maybe when it went to North Shields or am I missing the whole Coaster thing in the name

You'd have to rebrand the 42 aswell, personally i dont know why it was ever branded 'little coaster', i wouldnt class North Shields as the Coast,so in my eyes the only one to fit with 'little coaster' is the 11,but thats a matter of opinion, tbh i think the whole 'little coaster' network is dead in the water now after all the changes that happened last year, hopefully (after covid dies down) GNE see sense and review it,but i wont hold my breath

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
I agree. The Little Coaster network change ruined the name. Like the 42/42A got cut from North Shields. There's now only one way round Howden on the 41. I think an overhaul needs doing. Maybe change the branding to something else

The original branding is about connecting with the Coaster services and the parallel sections in Wallsend between Howdon and Wallsend which the 11, 40, 41 and 42/42A used to do and is the local bus services of Wallsend (replacement for Wallsend Links / North Tyne Links)

The 42/42A isn't too bad as it would make sense to connect with the Coaster at Wallsend to go places on the Southern sections.

The 19 is the one that's confused as it doesn't overlap or connect with the Coaster anywhere and at no point on the route does it make sense to do so either and at the same time doesn't serve Wallsend. It's also the only bus in the majority of the places that it serves that doesn't serve the coast at all and should be unbranded or have it's old Route 19 / Cobalt Connect branding which made sense.
