RE: Gateshead Central Taxis
Been told off a GCT driver that a number of contracts have been surrendered due to staff resource issues. Routes involved are 18/18A, 319, 85 / 86 and number of work services. Possibly a few others but not sure how much truth is in it. Apparently the 319 is going to go to Heworth too hence why I'm not sure. Phoenix is to run the 18/18A apparently and GNE the 319.

RE: Gateshead Central Taxis
Interesting, when you say Heworth,is the 319 is being extended to Heworth?,i also hope they surrender the Little Coasters,i reckon GNE could make a good go of the 335 aswell if that ever came up

Yes, the Little Coasters services are horrendous on an evening/Sunday- there's more chance of them not showing up than actually turning up.

When are the services going to be operated by their new operators? Are GCT keeping the Little Coasters, 79, 335, 515 and 516? Would be good to have Phoenix or GNE on 13, 32A, Little Coasters and 84/84A.

They've already got both links though.
Is there the need for a direct one between North Shields and Heworth - when there's already a handful of indirect ones?

Does Jarrow need another route to Heworth?

I'd argue Nexus should spend their funds elsewhere and improve those areas that have poor connectivity.
The 42a would be a good start.

Before this spirals off out of control, we should remember that these are secured services/journeys; i.e. ones that are not commercially viable. If what has been reported is true, then the immediate priority is going to be to cover the work asap... not make wholesale changes. Please stick to the suggestions threads for any suggested changes.

Oh and lets not start the Little Coasters crap off again...

See it is all possible rumours. We won't know anything till

A, it appears on Bus org
B, it appears on GNE website
C, there a post by nexus about it

And no I won't mention the 42A cause soon it won't become my local route anymore

Surely anyone wanting to go from North Shields to Heworth would use the Metro it's a hell of a lot quicker.

The 319 is an awful bus route imo. Whatever bus that goes through the tunnel should at least go to Cobalt (even just pay Stagecoach to extend the 10/11 all day additionally serving Percy Main for Metro changes). No-one wants to go from North Shields to Jarrow and there's the Ferry / Metro anyway.

A nice regular service. The 1A/1B will be single deckers soon, but still a good service.

I'm lucky Monday to Saturday to have 5 services - 33, 42A, 74, Q3 and X84/X85. Sundays I only have the 33A and the Q3.

Stagecoach have tried serving Cobalt from South Tyneside via the Tunnel and it was withdrawn as nobody was using it.

It's still running isn't it? Certainly still on the timetable at least anyway.

Coincidentally (?), Phoenix were advertising for staff on Facebook the other day

Its a shame cus i think it would of been a great service,i dont think it had time to establish itself properly before Covid hit, which probably contributed to its demise, maybe they'll try again in the future, maybe they'll bring back the 14,and try that to the Cobalt, who knows

It only says "until further notice".. so god knows how long for but its still a massive loss for them.

I would think GNE will be allocating a Solo or even a Sprinter to the 99.
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.
RE: Gateshead Central Taxis
Possible just sit there or all go to NT routes or whatever they have left

Looks like the MS and SNS are going to be ran together bit like the MS & CS now by GNE

Surprised it is until futher notice. Like is this just until they get new drivers or something or nexus hand these contract to other companies as this all seems rushed as they all change from this Sunday
