Go North East - Recent Repaints

RE: Go North East - Recent Repaints
There seems to be a lot of inconsistencies between all these new liveries that are based on the 'road stripe' concept.

The placement of the road stripe seems to vary depending on what day of the week it is, the Loop seems to have it pushed all the way to be back, and maybe tilted back further, whilst both of the 'Rider's have it further forward. The Durham Diamond seems to be this way as well. Whilst the Crusader and Cobalts have it much further forward

The Loop, Riders, Crusader, and Cobalts have the black bar down the side with the destinations, the Durham Diamond doesn't.

The Loop, East Gateshead Rider and Cobalts have the branding above the windows, but the CityRider and Durham Diamond have it below.

I thought this whole 'Road Stripe' concept was supposed to bring some continuity in the fleet.

It seems as though they were all designed by different people following the same brief but without having seen the previous designs.

Surely the road stripes does give continuity to the fleet - I doubt a member of the public will go out with a set square and a protractor to measure the angle of the lines.

I think you are looking too in depth at it if I am honest

You don't need any tools to measure the difference, it sticks out when they're lined up in Gateshead Interchange.

I would have thought when they're essentially doing a copy and paste job on the same vehicle with different colours, they could at least get the stripe in the same place

Look at these two examples. There has to be nearly a metre between them!

Continuity with the GNE fleet or various others dotted around the country?
It seems that one livery has more in common with the fleet in Cardiff, Harrogate, Manchester or Rotherham, than it does with its stable mate in the same depot!

Bus & Coach World repainted the majority of the Geminis further forward than they were intended - but for fleet continuity on the batches repainted by them, have continued to put them further forward.

It really doesn’t make a huge difference.

I personally think it looks much better further forward!

It's not just the placement though, the angle is also different.
By my rough calculations in Photoshop, the angle on the Crusader is 73 degrees and the Loop is 67 degrees, it doesn't sound like a lot but visually it really stands out. And when you combine that with placement being further back, it just looks really off.

In fact, if I correct for perspective and overlap them in Photoshop, you can see how different they are.

The angle on the Bus & Coach World painted Geminis is 45 degrees (again, they did one wrong and have done the rest wrong to match), everything else is 55.

Big Grin  They should’ve corrected their error rather than replicating it.

The fact it’s taken this long for anyone to notice suggests to me it’s not that big of an issue!

I've mentioned quite a few times on here that something was up with the road stripes, but I've only just managed to unearth the truth!  Big Grin

That wasn’t known back then though was it!
Not a big issue granted as the detail/consistency is seemingly not always high on the agenda, not above back patting anyway, from what we see of the bus industry on social media at least.

Appreciate the customer wouldn't notice or care, I just found it funny that a mistake was made on the first but rather than rectify it the decision was to do all the rest wrong so they match. Brilliant.  Big Grin
RE: Go North East - Recent Repaints
The Durham diamond livery looks good from the sneak peek from Dan's pic. One minor thing is that I thought the Consett and Stanley area services were green or yellow. I'm sure it was mentioned a while back and certainly most other services in that area are either yellow (venture, X5/15) or green (78, X30/31/45/46/70/71) as the main colours.
I have to admit I thought the Durham diamond would have ended up yellow with a blue rear!

Sorry I just got in there before you. Haha.
Great shots.
And you even have the front end of the Coaster streetlite lurking at the back of the yard too.

I wonder if the Durham Diamond deckers will get a differing coloured curve added under the windscreen like all the B9s.
RE: Go North East - Recent Repaints
The Durham Diamond looks nice

The cherries looks stunning (dk what it is with Citaros lately but they are looking stunning with whatever liverys is applied)

The Metrocentre Shuttle are lush

8315 has now been repainted into Corporate livery and had its seats retrimmed seen at Gateshead a short while back.

Smart! First one I’ve seen with the chrome strip on the front painted red too.
How come it’s got turquoise strips on the bottom of the doors? What was its previous livery?

EDIT: ah that was the Helix branded one.
RE: Go North East - Recent Repaints
I see they’re still keeping the ‘clean & safe to ride’ banners for this round of repaints. Just thought they could have made a mint reselling them to punters outside of nightclubs now they’re reopening  Rolleyes Sick

Just a silly joke. There’s an idea for the commercial team - get that on a T-shirt in time for the open day, you’ll have them queuing around the block.

I think the Durham Diamond is my favourite of all the 'Road Stripe' liveries. I'd prefer it if it was moved forward maybe 40-50cm, but overall it's the best looking so far.
Mainly because it doesn't have that bloody awful swoop on the front!

The Red Metrocentre Shuttle doesn't look very good IMO, but that could just be the photo, I'll have to see it in person to see whether the colours clash as much as they do in the photo.

As for that blue Metrocentre Shuttle, they genuinely couldn't have made it look more Arriva if they tried!
It's a good thing Arriva don't serve the Metrocentre or I could really see some confusion taking place.
