Just wonder if GNE are going to run the 28/28b/29 at the taxpayers expence? Not sure why Nexus can work out punters want to be in Eldon Square, but the commercial team at GNE can't.

Are there still congestion problems with buses still queueing at the bottom. Maybe thats it.

Presumably Nexus don't charge themselves to use the bus stations/factor this into the contract value, so not the same disincentive as for a commercial operator

But if GNE wanted that hub & spoke model to work, they would have ensured one of the spokes went in to the hub.

There's plenty space now since they've cut everything.Quite possibly, but it doesn't take a financial genius to work out that removing a (probably underperforming) service from a key location/destination isn't going to do much for its balance sheet.
They could have allocated a bus with all bells and whistles, but if people don't want to be on Market St but have an option that will take them closer to where they need to be (which is the case for the majority of punters living on either of the 28 variants), it's going to be the latter that wins every time.

I do think Nexus need to do more about Market Street West, the end bus stop that pretty much every GNE service uses has a completely inadequate shelter that isn't at the point where the buses stop. You always see just 2 people in the shelter with the other 20 odd passengers waiting in the open at the actual flag a few metres further up.

The one where 27 etc departs has flag but no shelter, yet other stop which is underused does have shelter

The shelter is in the middle of the two stops, but it's only a little shelter, not suitable for one of the busiest none bus station stops in the city. The larger ones outside of Central Station would be much more suitable.

There’s more resilience in having multiple bus stations. If there’s an accident, incident, fire alarm, planned or emergency road closure, only a proportion of services are affected rather than every service if they were all funnelled into a single bus station.
Plus people want to be all over the city centre for various reasons, hence on street bus stops.

What do you mean, outskirts?
Central Newcastle is roughly from Central Motorway in the north to the river in the south, Newcastle Helix to the west and maybe as far as Manors to the east.
Market Street is slap bang in the middle of the city centre, a 1-2 minute walk from Greys Monument.

Arguably, Market Street is more convenient as a 'destination', unless you're actually visiting Eldon Square. It's a surprising trek from Eldon Square bus station to anywhere you'd actually want to go!
RE: Go North East: Major Service Changes July 2022
I presume the 38 blonde bus will be repainted again into graphite for additional 39 routes
I also presume the road will be closed between goathland drive to ruswarp for a few month due to the construction of the brand new roundabout and therefore the 39 39a and 39b will omit tunstall village green and divert along the new Doxford to ryhope link road behind danby close and goathland drive along eltham road by venerable bede school back on to normal route.

Central Station is another issue, not served by anything to/from gateshead.
Even from market street, dragging luggage down grainger street is not ideal.

The metro?
The "1"??
As for a bus station its a shame the centre for life is there..... you could have stuck a bus station there for buses coming over the redraught bridge and scots wood road

The problem with central is that the none of the 21, 27, 51, 52, 56, 57, 58, X1, X10, X21 serve it, which are ideally what you would want.

The city planners clearly want anybody from the South to arrive at Central Station by Metro

Depends where that 'destination' is though.
I remember when GNE were terminating the 21s at Pilgrim St and the old Odeon.
They acted on apparent feedback regarding the stops and location and moved it to Eldon Square.
I'd argue the top of Pilgrim St offered more than Market Street too.

Yes i remember that too. So did the 1 and 1a.
RE: Go North East: Major Service Changes July 2022
With the new 29 route, between Gateshead and Kibblesworth, is it meant to be following the current 29 route ie. through Low Fell or is going to do the current 28a straight along Saltwell Road South? It's not clear on the description of the changes which route it is going to take.
