I'd love to know the return on investment here.

Hundreds of thousands of pounds spent on paint, vinyls, consultants, time spent in meetings, fuel to get to and from outsourced bodyshops and coachworks, labour, contractors etc

Vs what sort of return?
What sort of tangible evidence can prove any increase is because of a paint job or down to external factors relating to the weather, economy or events organised by 3rd parties?

It was branded for the shopping centre. We ran a special service from South Shields depot in the early 90s from South Shields to the Viking centre at Jarrow, it was paid for by DFDS

Missed the Yellow Blaydon Racer on Darts and the Black Blaydon Racer again on the Merc's on the 31/32(12/12A).

Also missed the M6/M7/M8 and Metro Mini for the 2nd one. There was also the Stanley Shuttle 40 aswell - https://www.flickr.com/photos/stagecoachuk/14228804117 which ended up having a non-standard fleet livery at Percy Main which looks like claw marks rather than the loop at the time - https://www.flickr.com/photos/131962719@N04/41250433421

Speaking of that, the Omnicity's had a very rare fleet livery aswell, believe only a few ever got it - https://www.flickr.com/photos/83823112@N03/28347192875/
RE: Go north east brands
I don't think it was branded, but Shields used to run the 555 back in the 90s from South Shields Market to Jarrow via all the tourist places around South Tyneside with the last call being Bedes World (Bede monastery and museum) as it was known then.

Wasn’t the 555 the ferry replacement service between South Shields and North Shields via Tyne tunnel when the ferry was not in use?

No that was and still is the 585 currently operated by Gateshead central

The 555 route was later reintroduced when City Sightseeing launched their South Tyneside open top service.
